Sorry to say, but my purchase went in the freezer for a week before being chucked out on rubbish collection day. My freezer then had a deep clean to remove the stench. It was the same packaging that you've described and I didn't feel confident trying out that rather smelly fish. :(

Yes, it smells terrible! I'm not going to risk trying it and it'll be going out on bin day!

Good Morning to all,

MY Colleague Sue Yoxall and I, in the joint MPS - WBC Community Protection department, are doing some work to identify Rogue traders who may be selling fish, Door to Door, across Wandsworth,

Please can you email me if you have recent sightings or experiences. There are legitimate traders but regrettably it is suspected there are some door to door sellers of fish which are not fit for consumption.

I am particularly interested if any van or other vehicles has been seen and ideally if there is a registration number. My email is david.bannister@met.police.uk.

Hi.
just found the thread after buying some fish on the door step - DOH !

Anyway, I live in North London so they operate here to.

The fish looks OK and doesn't smell but it's not the type he said it was.
When do you think a chap should learn about this type of thing - even as I was talking to him, I kind of new it was not right - but still bought some anyway !

Just checked Companies House for Northumberland Fisheries (co. no. 7489066) and they were dissolved in 2012 so I'm not sure who Claire AKA NorthFish 1510 is !
They may have been a legitimate company in the past but not now.

So, watch out.

Note to self : try to be a little less trusting of door step salesmen - LOL.

Bob.

All quiet on the fish front lately. I've missed this topic... (perhaps I need to get out more). I guess NVN mums and dads scared them off!

I bought off fish from them a while ago. I still wretch at the thought of salmon fillets!

When they knocked on my door this week I did give them an earful. The guy did not even try and defend himself. He just walked off.

Please don't anyone buy their fish and spread the word.

We still have them knocking nearly every week. Quite annoying! SW11

We've always found the Northcote Road stall excellent and when we lived that way, Moxon's too. When we can, support our local businesses.

After reading this blog i feel as though i need to speak up on behalf of my mother-in-law who was tricked by this company.

Northumberland fisheries called at my mother-in-law house last wednesday evening selling fresh fish.
She invited him into the kitchen and the salesmen showed her a small selection of fish, she was happy to buy a small amount of salmon, cod, bass
and dover sole.
The salesmen went to his van and then returend with a large box full of several packets of fish and started filling the frezzer.
After filling the frezzer he then towered over her and asked her for the payment which was a staggering £420.

I contacted Northumberland fisheries at the weekend and explained that my mother-in-law who is 87 and lives alone.
That there's no way she could possibly eat all this fish and that she felt pressured into buying it.
Also the salemen who called used intimidating sales techniques and pressured a little old lady into handing over hundreds of pounds for fish
which she didn't want or need.
His reply was that it wasn't them and there's knowen imposters operating in the area.
I then pointed out that we have a leaflet with your company's name and number which was handed over by your college when he left the premises
with payment.

He ended the call..

Wow, that's truly scandalous. Surely a matter for Wandsworth trading standards? Awful.

it's a known scam, know to the police, and it's been going on ages. I don't know why it hasn't been stopped. Maybe they need to be caught in the act or something? But it's bad frozen fish, I wouldn't buy from anyone door to door. Honest or otherwise.

When it's happening to the vulnerable and elderly that's really upsetting to read.

When you say "he ended the call", do you mean he hung up? As you have the leaflet now (which not many of those scammed have managed to get!), could you make that call to Trading Standards now?

I remember speaking to one of the Northcote Road community police officers a few months ago and they said that they were always very keen for people to tell them about run ins with this fish company, so you should definitely call the Wandsworth team and report it.

What a heartbreaking story - there seem to be plenty of people out there wanting to prey on the elderly and vulnerable. I saw a piece in last night's Standard about this very thing - http://www.standard.co.uk/business/mone ... 37802.html

It has a Citizen's Advice number. As its a new campaign, rather than the long-running (not much happening) issue of the door-to-door 'fishmongers' we've had in Nappy Valley, your mother-in-law's story may get some attention and action.
