Can anyone recommend nurseries in Southfields/Earlsfield

Postby gail0810 » Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:18 pm

Hello

I am planning on going back to work part time in the early summer and am looking for a nursery in the Southfields/Earlsfield area for my baby who will be 10/11 months by then. Can anyone recommend any good nurseries at all and any idea of prices?

Many thanks

Hi
Unfortunately there is no large choice in Earlsfield. I know Sticky Fingers on Garratt Lane but they only accept children from 18 months old.
There is a Teddies Nursery around, which would accept babies, but I think it is very expensive (about £1200/£1300 a month for a full time place).
Apart from those, I don't know any other.
Good luck!

In Earlsfield
There is also Colour Box (next to It's a Kids Thing) - though deposit is in the hundreds. There are 2 drop off playgroups (morning session), one at the One O'clock Club and another on Lyford Rd, but unless your child has been on the waiting list since birth I don't think it's likely they'll be given a place. We've been on a waiting list for over a year and still no place.

Hi

My Son went to Little Bunnies in Waynflete St and I was very happy with it. I definitely got a better vibe from there than I did with Sticky Fingers and my Son was really happy. Alice (one of the Owners) is really lovely and makes all the children feel really welcome.

Didn't Little Bunnies close a while ago?

Thank you for all your suggestions. I have phoned a few places to arrange visits and they all seem to have waiting lists and were all quite vague on when they'll be be able to let me know if my daughter will be able to get a place. So I guess I'll need to join a few lists.

I spoke to Teddies and am going to their open morning on 29 Jan though Ididn't think too much of them over the phone.

I hadn't heard of Colour Box before so will be sure to contact them too.

I also spotted a previous post saying that Little Bunnies had closed down. Seems a shame as the reports were very positive.

My daughter is at Teddies and we're very happy with it. To be honest I don't think you get a great impression going round any nursery when you have a baby as none of them feel very homely and they all look a bit worn, but once your kids are toddlers you'll realise all they want to do is play and run around and that's what they can do all day at nursery. They do far more stuff with them (painting and cooking etc) than you'd ever feel up to at home!

Teddies is at the pricier end though i must admit - it does annoy me the rate at which these places put up their prices each year - i wish my salary went up at the same rate!

I second Teddies in Earlsfield. It is rather pricey for full time and admittedly I didn't get a very good vibe when we went to an open day there but we ended up not having a choice by the time I went to work. Having said that, our son is extremely happy there - the staff are very caring and they do so many activities with all the children. The manager is very hands on which is great. We were put on a waiting list but didn't have to wait for very long!

In Southfields The Gardens Childcare group have 2 nurseries, one on Revelstoke Road called The Litte Hall, which is not too far from Earlsfield, and then they have another one closer to the tube station towards Wandsworth. The Little Hall is great, the team are all so loving towards the children but they do have a long waiting list. However, we had to wait more than a year to get a place, I registered before my son was born!

You may have to go for a childminder until a nursery place opens up. Both Wandsworth and Merton councils maintain lists of registered childminders and will send you the details of people near you. Also there is a group from a Wandsworth Childminding Association who meet from time to time and they usually post details on this website of their next meeting - you migth meet some childminders there and they also maintain lists of registered childminders. Finally you could try www.*********. Its free to register and then take a look and see if there is anyone you'd want to contact, but to actually contact anyone then you need to pay about £15 for 3 months to be able to contact people through the site. I used this site to find a temporary childminder until my nursery place came available.

Good luck.

Hi, I can recommend Brocklebank Day Nursery on Swaffield Road. My son has been there for over a year and is very happy. It's also quite a bit more reasonably priced than Teddies.

Hello
Reading this thread with great interest as we are planning to move to Earlsfield in the next few months (or as soon as we can sell our flat!) and it seems that finding a nursery with suitable hours (ie 7.30am to 6.30pm) is really tricky. We've got an 18mo currently in a Battersea nursery and another one on the way, and finding somewhere that would work with our work schedules is really important!
Is Teddies really the only option (and not a brilliant one at that because it's only 8am-6pm)? I spoke to them a few days ago and they didn't seem particularly flexible... at this rate it looks like it might be easier to keep our son in Battersea and do a drop off/pick up on the way in and out of work - but I really don't want to do that!
Any advice would be much appreciated - I have heard that NVN is *the* place to get answers :D
Thank you so much
