Support Wandsworth's first sustainable fish-box scheme

Postby Guy@Faircatch » Thu Mar 12, 2015 8:33 pm

Faircatch (http://www.faircatch.co.uk) is a new way for our neighbourhood to buy splendidly fresh fish straight from the boat. It all comes from small day-boats using environmentally sound, sustainable fishing methods and landing to the closest parts of our coast (Hastings, Emsworth, Newhaven). You sign up for a subscription from £50 for 4 weeks worth and the fish is often landed the morning you get it or the day before. It's far superior to anything you'll see in a supermarket and supports our local fishermen, helping preserve their way of life and our coastal heritage. We are just coming to the end of our first 8 week season where members have been collecting their fish from Barmouth Kitchen (SW18 2DN), a little café just off East Hill and Wandsworth Common, but we hope to open additional collections hubs soon, perhaps Old York Road and Northcote Road. Please sign up and try us out, register your interest on the web site, like our FB page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Faircatc ... 6658791516 and follow us on twitter @guydorrell1 https://twitter.com/guydorrell1 Thanks and a very happy #Fishfriday to you all!

Many of our members are away so we're taking a break on Good Friday but there's still time to sign up for a 4 or 8 week season starting this Friday 20th or next Friday 27th and you'll simply get another week added onto the end. If you like fresh fish, are fed up with the dire supermarket offerings and are a fan of eating local and sustainable food systems, then please sign up, we've had a great start but need your support to keep going! Thanks

Our Faircatch fish-box mackerel was stunning last Friday - firm, bright-eyed and with gleaming silver and blue skin, just as it should be! We thought we'd try something new so had a go at this recipe from Jamie O for crispy skinned fillets with asian inspired dressing. Quick and delicious,I can see us having this frequently over the summer.

Huge thanks to our membership for their support, I hope a few more of you in SW18, SW15, SW11 and SW19 will sign up for a membership starting this Friday and support an innovative, sustainable, local, family venture.

Thanks, Guy,Illi, Lila and Audrey x

You should put this on Streetlife. I have forwarded your link to a few people and the consent all round was that Streetlife Wandsworth will be a good place to advertise this service.

Sorry, not a good thought - it's increasingly important to know where your fish comes from.....

This week's super-fresh Faircatch fish is coming from Emsworth just an hour down the A3. It will be landed Friday morning and on our members' plates a few hours later. With the water warming up, the bream are arriving in greater numbers and we hope to have some grey mullet and squid too. Our fish will be caught by this lovely couple Pete and Chantelle, from their small boat using sustainable methods. Please sign up for a 4 or 8-week season starting this Friday 10th April - there are weekly or fortnightly collection options and if you're away for one of your Fridays, just let us know and we'll swap your dates. A second collection point coming to Northcote road soon, so register your interest on the web site to be kept informed. Enjoy the lovely everyone!
