Balham nurseries - any suggestions?

Postby shanna » Tue Aug 18, 2009 11:05 pm

Hi I'm looking for feedback on any nurseries in Balham. I am looking to put my daughter in next year and know I need to get on waiting lists ASAP. Does anybody have any experience with the Eveline nursery on Ritherdon Road?

Hi Shanna
So sorry we didn't reply. I must have been having an off day when you posted. Did you make your mind up or are we too late?

Apologies again

Now I am feeling really really stupid!

I looked at the date that you joined the forum and thought that was when you posted. I couldn't understand why I hadn't seen your message before.

I am going to go to bed and then we'll get some answers for you tomorrow. ;)

Sorry for the confusion!

Hi
We've spoken to a few friends with children there and they absolutely adored it. They felt the organisation as a whole was run in a matriarchy style and with high standards of discipline, that might not be to everyone's taste but liked it and more importantly their children thrived upon it. They also felt it was a very kind environment. I am sure you have seen this but in case you haven't I've attached the latest ofsted report for the school, its a few years old but they did get a "good" rating which is encouraging. The other option to consider is Teddies Balham which is just across the road from them. They were last inspected in 2006. Their report was only a satisfactory but it was three years ago so a lot could change. I must also add that my own children went to Teddies Balham and they loved it. However the one thing I would stress is that nurseries are only as good as the manager and we saw Teddies Balham go up and down in quality many many times depending on who was in charge. Hopefully we can get some more feedback for you in the next few days!

To downloade the Eveline report just clip on the pink writing by the paperclip below.

Hope this helps.

My daughter has been at Abacus on Laitwood Road since March 08 when we moved to the area. I am so, so pleased with the care she has recieved. There staff are brilliant and they have external people come in to run music and dance sessions on a weekly basis. Wherever we go, people comment on how my daughter has lovely manners and an advanced vocabuary, and this is the same for other kids her age who go to Abacus. I would absolutely recommend it as a fantastic nursery.

Our daughter (who is six now) went to Eveline's on Ritherdon road from nine months to three years old.
Our experience of the place was wonderful and we cannot praise it highly enough.
The staff were fantastic and the care and development offered was excellent.
We also found that the staff were happy and stayed for long periods - something that doesn't happen at all nurseries.
Our daughter loved her time there and she was very upset when it came time to move-on.

I know that our experience is now a little dated, but we still keep in touch and understand that the good work continues!
