Nursery with longer than average hours

Postby sw11_ » Thu Mar 17, 2011 12:07 pm

Hi does anyone know of a nursery that will take children for a little longer than average, ideally around SW11.

Of the ones i've seen, Kids Unlimited do 7.30-18.00, Baby Rooms do 8.00-18.30, and Northcote Gardens do 8.00-19.00.

In an ideal world i would love somewhere that would take my daughter from 7am to 7pm - does anyone know of anywhere that does this? I know it is a long day for her but otherwise i will have to drive her across London to a nursery near my office every day which would be even more tiring for both of us.

I'd be so grateful for any local suggestions.

Thanks

This isn't a direct answer I'm afraid, but have you considered a nanny or nannyshare? Often nannies will work these hours and it may be less tiring for your child to be at home where they can rest when they need to, go to bed early if they are tired etc? Also easier for you if you have a long day and pressured job.

Sorry not a direct answer here either.
From memory - I think that there is a cap on the length of time a nursery can be open, which is why you will be struggling with the 7 until 7 requirement? Could be wrong. I just seem to remember something about this when i was looking.
Maybe one if the other options would be better?

thanks. i started off looking at nannies but was surprised how expensive they are. i spoke to a couple of agencies and they said for 12 hours a day i'd have to pay c.£850 pw gross, which is getting on for £45k a year which just seems hard to justify compared to the cost of nursery for one child. and with a nannyshare i was a bit concerned about having to fit around the other family. its a topic for another forum i guess but i assumed full time nannyshares must be quite hard to pull off successfully unless its with someone you know well?

So they are quoting you about £14.50 gross per hour for a nanny if I got my figures right. You could potentially fare better by trying an ad on Gumtree and negotiating. It partly depends how much experience you want. Agencies often won't take nannies onto their books unless they have a minimum amount of experience (maybe 5 years) so if you could accept less than that and don't mind sifting through the applicants yourself you may find someone more affordable through Gumtree or another online site such as Nannyjob or indeed Nappyvalleynet! Many nursery workers have considerably less than 5 years experience so you would still be better off with one-to-one care with someone who doesn't necessarily meet the minimum experience requirements for a nanny agency's books.

When are you looking for childcare to start from?

Maybe try ****.co.uk lots of childminders on there and childminders are usually cheaper than nursery!

Or why not a nannyshare? Nannyshare.co.uk average rate is £10 net per hour so that's £5 net per family.

Hello.

I am a qualified and experienced nanny.

Nannies on average get around £90 ~ £100 a day.
So thats just under £500 a week, alot better than the £850 that you were quoted.

Good luck

yes a nanny may get around £90 ~ £100 a day but the employer has to allow for tax & NI on top which whacks up the cost

Yes, my son goes there. He has been there for 1 year for 2/3 days a week and our daughter will be starting there in the summer when I go back to work. We choose Bridge Lane because it was walking distance from our home, the staff seem happy and friendly and the children always seem to be enjoying themselves. It hads a good reputation and has a waiting list, we had to wait 6 months to get our son in and since our son has attended the nursery it has received a very good Ofsted report ....whatever that means!

We are very happy with it. Definately worth visiting.

How about new nanny share type? (nanny with her own child) although you still pay taxes the pay per hour can be between 7-8£

can you get a nanny that maybe starts her day later with another family to come to you first to get your little one ready and drop her at nursery so that you can leave the house early enough? and again at the end of the day the same thing? or someone may have an au pair that maybe finishes at tea time so they are free to do your pick up? it will be a difficult job finding someone or you could just strike lucky.
