Blackout window solutions - any ideas?

Postby Abi_88 » Tue Mar 22, 2011 9:54 pm

Hi
I'm due to have my second baby in May so am looking at the best way to 'blackout' their window.

My first baby sleeps so much better with total blackout so we have a complicated system of a blackout roller blind, blackout curtains and I even ended up taping blackout material to part of the window aswell!

Does anyone have any advice on a simpler system? For example, are roman blinds better? Or can you buy velux style blinds for sash windows?

Many thanks
Abi

Abi
From my professional and personal (having had two children) experience I agree with you that the shop bought blinds or curtains don't work well enough.
I have been recommending a very effective blackout blind material to customers - looks neat and keeps the light out. If you want to give me a call I am very happy to give a bit of advice.

We used a black out blind with heavy dark curtains, which worked quite well for our 1st child. He is now 2 years and I want him to get used to some light so we just use the curtains.

For the baby I also use the 'Gro anywhere blackout blind' (£30 from NCT shop) with curtains. This blind is very good it has suction pads to stick it to the window and is relatively easy to put up and take down so we take it with us when we go away and it will stick to any window.

I bought a black towel that I use underneath by son's usual roller blind during the summer months which works brilliantly. I tuck it in the top and then again at the bottom so it's taught. It completely blocks the light and is so easy - I highly recommend it !
