It’s thanks to a post I saw on NVN that I found out about Little Learners, so now that our daughter has ‘graduated’ I thought I should pay-it-forward and let others know about this truly wonderful morning nursery.
As a stay-at-home mum, I thought nursery was an indulgence and I was very anxious about leaving our daughter with anyone. Michelle was amazing, very patient and understanding. This has been a wonderful process for us in transitioning from NCT groups to a nursery that will take her through to school.
Our daughter has absolutely thrived in the stimulating, positive, happy, loving environment. As a parent, I loved the focus of learning through play which is evident in every aspect of the indoor space and I really appreciated the ever changing themes and social awareness (somehow the teachers managed to engage the toddlers enough that they happily sat in silence (except for the gentle shhhh noises by the older children) for 2 minutes on Remembrance Day and my daughter explained to me that it was to say thank you to the soldiers – beautiful).
At the end of each term the toddlers are sent home with an activity and instructions, most recently a ball of play-doh and a sheet of play-doh disco songs. Everything the teachers do is so thoughtful and caring, beyond anything I have heard about elsewhere. Often as subtle as using Makaton when welcoming each child of a morning.
Without giving everything away, we have also always been so impressed with the communication to parents and in particular the incredibly thorough report at the end of each term which is a file complete with observations, photographs, examples of their artwork etc… such an amazing collection.
As for our daughter, she loved the absolute freedom to explore and express herself. From the colours, shapes and natural textures on the lightbox; to the outdoor tables with foam to drive cars through; cereal to crush; coloured rice to pour; underwater scenes and best of all ….a ‘garden’ table of soil and plastic flowers.
Obviously, we adore Little Learners and I hope this post helps another parent as much as the original one I read helped me.
