You need to ring the Broomwood registrar and ask how likely it is and how far up the waiting list she is. If you say it's your first choice then your child might get bumped up anyway. Once the Thomas's offers are out I expect there will be some availability.

Totally agree that assessing a 4 year old is pointless!
But I wouldn't take the "rejection" personal at all - it's all a numbers game of how many siblings, 50-50 split between boys and girls, spreading the childrens' birthdays equally throughout the year..
If you are keen on the school, definitely let the registrar know this is your first choice, ask about how much movement to expect in the waiting list (as already mentioned, once Thomas's offers are out in mid November, most parents take Thomas's over Broomwood), and ask when to call back (probably in November, a week or two after Thomas's offers?)
If i's your first choice, hand in there, it's a big decision and your daughter will spend many years there, so I wouldn't give up that easily.
