how much homework is your child doing?

Hi
I have a child at a local private school and he has just gone into year 4. He is coming home with about 40 mins homework every night! That doesn't even include reading! He is doing about 30mins reading on top. Is anyone else doing the same? Is that too much? I'd love to know what other schools are doing to compare...
