Dreadful mobile reception....anyone else?!

Postby boojackson » Sat Jun 25, 2011 11:54 am

We've recently moved to Clapham (Grandison Rd) and find that I have virtually no phone reception at home, and in certain areas of Northcote Rd/Clapam Common etc.... I'm on Vofdafone, but thinking of switching networks if anyone can tell me that their network works well in these parts!!

I also live between the commons, and am on Vodafone-had NO coverage at home at all, and it was really irritating!

I got a Vodafone Sure Signal box from the Vodafone shop on St John's Rd, and it has given me full signal at home. I think it was £50.

Obviously it doesn't solve the problem when out and about, but at home it's been invaluable!

Hope this helps.

For some reason, vodafone often has terrible service in clapham/battersea. it is average in the street, but poor to very poor inside. they have a website you can check what your reception will be like for the network - not sure where it is but the nice people at carphone warehouse showed it to me.

we got the gateway, and i haven't been massively impressed. sometimes it makes a difference, sometimes not. ours seems to need rebooting frequently. every now and then i lose reception, or just have 1 bar and a really bad line.

i have vodafone for work and can't change, and my husband is locked into a contract with vodafone and can't get out for a while (he was furious when he realised the reception issues). i get ok coverage with t mobile, although i don't much like them as a company for my personal phone.

I used to be on Voda (Clapham Common Northside) and the reception was terrible. I am now on Orange and it is really no better. A friend is on O2 and frequently gets no service in my home and my daughter is on 3 and has the same problem. Orange now roams with T-Mobile so that improves it only very slightly. I give up!
What does the booster do and do other networks offer the same?
I was told by Orange that this is a 3G black hole, not helpful but it does seem to have some truth.

Hi,
this is a chicken and egg situation - to get better reception the companies need more masts but who would agree to have a mobile phone mast put up outside their house? or the roof of their kids' school? They pay a fortune as well, but each time my church has been approached so far they've said 'no'!

Thanks for all the responses......I called Vodafone and explained the problem (fairly sure they didn't believe me!) anyway, after asking when my contract was up (which was Feb next year) and me saying cancel the contract I'll use someone else...they said they would have to charge me to cancel it, or that I could try the signal booster. I point blank refused to pay for it saying I was paying for a service that I was not being provided with, and in order for me to stop getting the service that I'm not actually getting they were going to charge me, so it was up to them to sort it out. Low and behold signal booster on it's way to me.....fingers crossed it works!

I can get you a free mobile (that'd be free calls & texts to UK landlines & mobiles) that can also potentially give you free roaming charges too. Quite amazing, but true! Call me on 07595 430560 & I can show you how. It's the Orange & T-mobile everything everywhere net & I get great coverage on Sudbrooke Road.... Clare
