Best Putney pre-prep for SEN/anxiety?

Postby Fifawhowins » Tue Jul 10, 2018 6:57 pm

Cutting a very very long story short.

Unfortunately DS, 4.8, lashes out at times instead of saying Can you wait please? Or I don't want to share, wait for your turn etc...
Now the school he's starting at in September is sending red signals ie they'd rather he wasn't starting there.

Are there pre-preps around Putney which are better suited for a child with anxiety (that's the underlying cause we were given)?

Thanks for your help šŸ˜Š

To be honest I would also look at state schools. Private schools are not bound by the same requirements as state schools with regard to children who may need additional support (private schools are not required to do anything by law beyond comply with disability discrimination legislation but state schools bound by other law to use ā€œbest endeavoursā€ to support kids).
If I were you I would get to the bottom of the anxiety and what your child needs to be supported to manage it and then look at schools that might be suitable. Educational psychologist may be able to advise on what needed.
I donā€™t know about Putney but the Roche and Finton house meant to be pretty inclusive.

I agree with Kat.

The problem with an Indy is that the other parents are the customers and so some schools get super nervous about children disrupting so much that their customers (other parents) start to think about taking their fees elsewhere.

I've often found it a little odd that some of those schools that teach kindness and inclusivity and being nice are the first to circle their wagons when it happens in the real world but hey ho...

That means that the state schools, who report to the government/council, are actually most able to 'push back' and so are often best placed to offer care.

You might want to try Thames Christian College - they're amazing and although I've never sent a child there I've heard only good things about their ability to help in this type of situation but, to be clear, I don't know how much and to what extent.

Good luck - it must be super stressful for you.

Hey there, there are actually some pre-prep, you could use some recreational medicine, it would do just good, my kid went through and this helped. Because of my husband work, we are moving house often, and clearly it is stressing for our child, and he has a hard time leaving his school and friends every 3 months. I didn't want to put him on drugs or something like this, but I needed to deal with it somehow. After some research, recreational medicine seemed for me the best option, and I chose kratom for sales, however, I didn't give him the whole kit, but one half, since he is only 16 years old, and so far now he is doing pretty well, is more calm, happier, and has more energy than usual.
