Another ‘Rolex robbery’ carried out by moped riders.
I was in Liors on Webbs Road talking to one of the investigating officers as they were viewing CCTV footage.
This recent spate of robberies is a repeat of what happened several years ago, even using the same routes and methods. There was an arrest at that time with an 8 year sentence. In this area we are an easy target as there are so many people out alone. As the streets on the grid between the commons i.e. all those that cross Northcote and Webbs are so quiet there is unlikely to be to any intervention from other members of the public in the event of an attack. The thieves are looking for watches and i phones.
Moped riders will mount the pavements and are fearless. Today on NextDoor sightings were reported with an ‘urgent alert’ and police presence was almost immediate so they were in the area as this theft occurred. There was a post to say that the moped riders seemed to be carrying a gun. Police confirmed it was in actual fact a taser / stun gun. This in itself is an offence - 10 years inprisonment.
Contrary to what people believe, which is that there is police apathy in arresting these robbers, it is very difficult to pursue them. Unless things are handled in a certain way ( police are actively being trained to deal with a chase situation ) it is the police themselves who can be suspended and lose their jobs.
