Update: It was a 40 year old local man who was stabbed after some sort of altercation.
Police were called to Clapham Park Road, close to Clapham Common Tube station just after 2.30pm on Friday following reports of a stabbing.
Officers raced to the scene along with members of the London Ambulance Service where they discovered a man in his 40s suffering from knife wounds.
Despite efforts by the paramedics he sadly died at the scene.
Witnesses claimed the victim was a father of three who lived locally. The incident occurred on the busy Clapham Park Road close to the local tube station.
Witnesses claimed there had been a violent altercation further along the road between the victim and a group of men, during which he received a stab wound to his chest.
He then fled in his car, driving at speed towards Clapham Common, where he crashed the car into a lamppost outside the Belle Vue pub.
People at the scene then described seeing three men pulling from his car before attacking him again.
Restaurant manager Phil Camara told how the stab victim driving at speed towards Clapham Common.
Mr Camara, 36, who saw the incident from his upstairs office window, said: “He was driving really fast up the road, tyres screeching. "Then he crashed into the traffic light post when he swerved to avoid a person crossing at the junction.
“That’s when what seemed to be a huge fight broke out. People were running around all over the place and the next minute the driver was lying bleeding on the road.
“I couldn’t see if the people dragged him out of the car or if someone stabbed him while he was still sitting inside. It was bedlam.”
