Do you know of any book clubs in SW18? Or is anyone interested in setting one up?

Hi,

I'm in a book group that is just being resurrected. In the past we have met at each other's houses every 6 weeks or so for nibbles, wine and book chat. Someone would nominate 3 books and then we'd vote, read the winning book and discuss at the nominator's house.

People are all over SW London. We are meeting the evening of Oct 28 in Soho for dinner and to discuss how we want to run the new group.

Let me know if you're interested in hearing more.

Hi Katrina, I used to be in one but 'lapsed' when I had my second child. Now I have three and am desperate for something to break in to the relentless domesticity! Would be interested in joining a new one. I'm in Balham SW12.

I'm in balham too and would love to join or start one. Happy to co-ordinate and/or host the first meeting.

I've been looking to join a book club for ages. I find that all I read now that I have a baby (she's 18 months old) are baby books. I live in Streatham Hill so Balham would be very convenient. Rachel, that's very kind of you to offer to coordinate/host the first meeting!

Hi All

So now we are 8 - think that's enough to kick things off? I'm really happy to host the first meeting (maybe a social and planning exercise??) at my place. Let me know who's still interested and whether you are happy to meet up without reading first time? Also, mindful that the silly season is soon upon us, maybe we could try to squeeze our first session in during November and get going in earnest from Jan?

Any and all thoughts welcome!

I'm in Earlsfield and would love to join/start a book club here (especially as the Balham one looks like it's probably getting a little full). Would anyone be interested? I'd be quite happy to host the first one and we can see how it goes!

Clare,

I think it's a great idea to meet first and discuss possible books and then start properly in the new year.

How should we get started?

We've been thinking of doing one with the mums at Fircroft School, would be nice to have a wider selection of people and meet more people. Things can get a little incestuous and insulated otherwise.

I would love to join!

Hello.

I would love to join the reading group if there are still places. I am in Tooting so could come to either Earlsfield or Balham. I love books and would welcome the chance to read some that I wouldn't normally come across.

My number is 07966 288 045

Many thanks

Beth

Hi everyone

Following from my last message, and from some of the emails I've had, it seems that the general plan to have a social gathering at my place this month to set out the 'plan' is a good idea. We can then struggle womanfully to read the first book for a proper meetup in Jan.

From the emails, and I agree with them, earlier weeknights are probably better so let's aim for a Monday or Tuesday and see what suits most. For the first meetup, can I suggest any of Mon 16, Tues 17, Mon 23, Tues 24. Will probably just go with the majority.

I'm very happy to host at my place on Balham Park Road, SW12.

As for numbers, I think a group of 8-10 max is doable on the basis that on any given month, there will be someone who can't make it. But much bigger than that, and on the off chance that everyone can make it, 10+ becomes a massive job for someone to cater for/provide space for.

As ever, I'm very happy to hear any thoughts, whether you agree or disagree with what I've said.

How exciting!

Clare
