Nursery close to Northcote Road

Postby CharlotteLP » Thu Sep 03, 2020 4:17 pm

Hi there
Can anyone recommend a good nursery in the area for a 2 year old. We work full time so require full days and to be open during the holidays.
it would be good to hear experiences of both those that are good and bad!
We are not sure what to look for apart from happy children, structure and good development (nice food a bonus!)
Thanks

It’s a little further than Northcote Road but I highly recommend you take a look at Apples and Honey Nightingale. It’s a wonderful nursery set in the most beautiful garden. It is ofsted outstanding. A unique setting as it is in a care home - normally there is a daily activity with the residents but probably that part is on hold for the moment.

Our son is 2.5 and has been at northcote house since he was 14 months old. They can do long hours (7:30-7pm) and it’s Open all year. We’ve been really thrilled with the team. Kelly the manager is wonderful, loving and so committed. All the staff have amazing relationships with the children and our son is so happy there and comes out chatting and excited even after a long day.

My 3.5 YO daughter has been at Northcote house for over a year and we love it. She’s very happy there. She was previously at another nursery and we found it difficult for her to settle and then when she moved into the toddler room the lack of good English speakers worried us so we moved her to Northcote House. Staff are brilliant and enthusiastic. For me happiness and safety are key at this stage and Kelly and the team certainly provide this. The only thing you may find lacking at pre school stage is proper sit down lessons to learn to write. You’d only really find this at a sessional nursery though, I believe.

We have 2 daughters at Northcote House and Bennerley House. Kelly and the team there are brilliant. My eldest has been at the nursery for 3 years and loved every minute. In that time we've had a host of different managers (and if you speak to someone about their experience in that time it probably won't get a glowing review) but Kelly has now been there for over a year and the team is really stable. All the staff are upbeat and very caring. We work full time too and it has worked brilliantly for that. It's now open 7.30-7 but most kids do 8-6ish. It closes bank holidays and for a very short period over Christmas, but otherwise it's open. The food is really nutritious and interesting, the activities are imaginative and you get regular updates about the nursery. It's been an emotional few weeks seeing the very happy kids leave to go to school, which shows how much they have enjoyed it there. The pre-school room definitely allows for independence, so all the kids are definitely school ready. They have a facebook page with a virtual tour on it, and Kelly will be more than happy to chat to you.

Apples and Honey is about a 5 min walk from the broomwood road end of northcote road and it’s AMAZING.

- first on site inter generational nursery
- does forest school once a week
- amazing outdoor space
- not for profit awaiting charitable status
- community nursery with amazing supportive friendly parents
- option for term time or full time, 9-3.30 Mondays to Thursdays with option for breakfast and afternoon clubs (so 7.30-6.30). Fridays they shut at 2.

I would add that their zoom sessions were the only zoom sessions my son would engage in throughout lockdown. For an hour 5 days a week there was singing and storytelling and experiments once a week. Kathy their amazing head would call and email us parents to check if we and the kids were ok. Utterly amazing.
