These stickers have another reason if on letterbox or bell when you come home you remove them.
The person that puts them there come back following day and the following to see if still there, which means house empty. Other things like unscrewing door bell or placing something that has to be removed before door opened. Always remove straight away and any thing else so they know some one is comeing and going freqently.
Fix doorbell straight away if tampered with.

Re: Fake Locksmith Scam - beware they are at it again! 9th March 2022

Postby Denwand » Wed Mar 09, 2022 7:08 pm

Just peeled a 24hr Locksmith sticker off of my front door - I didn't ask for them to put it :D there and they are tricky to get off.

Lots of posts say this is part of an elaborate burglary scam - not too sure of that but I would check your front door and peel off just in case.

It was put there this afternoon on the 9th March 2022 on the Magdalen estate,

Stay safe!  :D

Re: Fake Locksmith Scam - beware gas meter scam?

Postby ronangel » Thu Mar 10, 2022 8:59 am

There is I believe another scam that is not well known until just now!
I noticed some time ago that the outside gas meter boxes had been opened more than once over a short period of time, one which had a faulty catch so hard to close quickly.
What is I think happening is like with the locksmiths one to see if sticker removed or messing with doorbell to see if repaired is to take reading of gas meter. then come back a day or so later to see if has changed a lot. If not, further return and read will tell them no one in the house in cold weather as heating was not being used.
Probably no one living there or away..... Do something so you can easily tell if cover has been opened without having to touch box....... :o 8-)

These 'locksmith' villains are all over Clapham (Common).  Have been for years ... but seem to be many more now.  Their other trick, as a poster on this thread has warned, is to place something right in front of the door which will have to be moved in order to get into the house.  Last week we found our porch doormat carefully rolled up into a tube shape!  If we'd been away, & the doormat left like that for more than a day, it would have been an obvious sign that nobody was living in the house.  Cue:  break-in.   If away, best to get a kind neighbour to watch the house & remove stickers, unfold doormats, etc.

Thank you for bewaring! I had seen a similar sticker in my neighborhood!
