Best roads for trick or treating? Post Reply

We have some family friends coming to stay over halloween and they're keen to go trick or treating. Mine have always gone to a family halloween party so I'm not sure which roads/ areas are the best ones to point them to? Would anyone be able to suggest some?

Surely everyone goes trick or treating in the roads near their house?!

Trick or treat tourism hunting down the ‘best’ streets sounds appalling and I’m sure your visitors would raise an eyebrow at you for suggesting it and giving them a map

If you want to admire elaborately decorated houses, the American enclaves in Chelsea are worth a look but good grief don’t go travelling there to swipe their higher grade candy!

OK Btc_Mum, perhaps you can climb down from your high horse and look at things a bit more pragmatically. MANY streets do in fact, by design, go all out for Halloween with concerted and conjoined efforts to really invest in decoration and give kids a magical Halloween experience. The OP did not ask who did the best sweets, it's about the experience for the kids!! I have heard that Heaver Estate always make a big thing of Halloween. It's perfectly normal for people to visit other streets to trick or treat if they have created a spooky experience, they WANT children to come and enjoy it... Perhaps a witch costume for you?

The Toast Rack is Halloween Central and there’s a house nearby on Trinity Road which is always spectacular (or should that be spooktacular?!). There is a lot of Halloween tourism - I had someone from Mitcham one year. I haven’t done it for a few years as my kids are now too old but it used to be super fun with a great atmosphere and I reckon I get a couple of hundred children knocking at the door.

American here....yes it is important to have an idea of which streets do it best. That's exactly what we do in the states. We don't bother going to areas that have little to no decorations. We want the kids to see the huge decorations and have fun! Having said that...from the northcote to the common was quite good few years ago...we live further out now but we make out house huge event with fog machine, animatronics, spiders, flashing lights, ghosts projected in windows and organ music. It takes months of planning but we do it the American way and are proud to. It has encouraged our neighbours to start decorating as well!

I live on the Heaver estate and Halloween has been completely ruined for locals as it seems like bus loads of people arrive and the road becomes so busy you can’t even knock on a door. Lots of us have stopped joining in. 20 years ago we made a big thing of it but it then just became horrendous. You could have a 1000 sweets and they would be gone by about 6pm. When you ran out people would be quite rude. There was egg throwing etc. I’m not sure why people expect others to provide them with free sweets ….
