Help! baby wipes allergy

Postby annamike » Mon Oct 31, 2011 12:39 pm

My son developed a contact allergy on his face with Pampers baby wipes. I have used them for a long time but it looks like his face skin is very sensitive now although they are fragrance free. Can anybody recommend any Organic/special sensitive wipes?

I would suggest if it's his face just use a soft flannel and plain water, you don't really need to use wipes and it's better for the environment.

Hello there,

That is a worrying development. Whilst I agree with the flannel approach we all know that there are times when wipes are necessary. I use, and definitely recommend, naturebotts wipes. I have used them since mine where small with no adverse reactions and they are environmentally friendly. :D

I also agree with using water and a flannel cloth. The same thing happened to my son. My new nanny used the Pampers wipes on his face and he developed rashes. There are no problems when used on his bum though. However when he poops I wash his bum with water after cleaning him with wipes.
We stopped using the wipes on his face and only use water to clean his face and the rashes cleared out.

I understand that it may be difficult to do that when out and about or in nursery. I would like to know if you find wipes that are OK to use on his face.

@newbiemom
same thing happened to mine. rash only on his face and not on his bum..
will let you know. it's reassuring that we are not the only one with such a problem. yesterday when i first saw his face rash i thought he ate something worng (strange as he is 2 and tried almost everything already). then I realized it when saw him playing with a wipe later on his face and the rash came back. it fades in 1-2 hr but still not nice

I never used Pampers as even the sensitive version made my hands feel funny - but used instead Naturecare ( think) range from waitrose or the sensitive fragrance free Waitrose own label wipes. They do tend to be more expensive but worth it if your child is reacts badly

I swear by beaming baby wipes. They do facial and bottom ones, although I tend to use a flannel for grubby faces!

They are not the cheapest but Eco friendly and organic, bulk buy from them direct to get the best deal.

My friend (whose little boy has reactions to baby wipes) uses these. She gets them from Amazon and they are mainly water.

I use the Derma H2O on my 6 months old daughter and they are great.
They are made of 99% water and are very handy. It is extremely hygienic and practical (who has time to wash flanels daily!!!!!). You can buy them from Amazon, Waitrose or Kiddicare.

@annamike I know how you feel. I would have been very reassured to know others also react to the Pampers wipes as I had no idea what was causing the rash initially. I also find it a bit odd that it spares the bum. Oh well....

Thanks all for the DermaH20 wipes recommendation. It seems like the real deal, they have really good reviews on Amazon. I have been thinking its a shame there are no wipes that are simply toilet roll dunked in water and they seem way better than that. :)

Hi there - i've discovered some brilliant wipes called Waterwipes. They are 99% water and 1% flower extract. You can use them on newborns - which I have - and she has not had nappy rash at all. You can get them from Ocado or from Amazon. They were recommended to me through my NCT course and especially with a newborn it takes away the faff of using cotton wool and boiled water!

Hope that helps

Hiya
I developed severe eczema on my hands from baby wipes (huggies pure were the ones that set it of but since then I had problems with all baby wipes ) i used to have to put gloves on before using them!!! I discovered waterwipes about a year ago and they have never caused a reaction and I couldn't rave about them enough. They are a bit more expensive but Ocado do offers on them often and you can buy a massive multi pack, so I just buy in bulk and they work out ok.
