License point 'expiring' and 'being removed'

Postby lemons and limes » Tue Jan 23, 2024 6:09 pm

Wondering if anyone can answer this question, my husband and I can't seem to fathom it out. He has 'quite a lot' of points that expire very soon but apparently they don't get taken off his license until a year after the expiry date. Do those points still stand until they are removed or are they already 'gone' to speak? Thanks so much.

They stand for insurance purposes (usually 5 years in my experience) but in terms of driving disqualification, they are are only 'valid' for 3 years.

Hope this helps.

Yeah exactly as above. Points don’t physically exist on your licence as they used to on the old paper ones. When insuring the car you just get asked if you’ve had any convictions /offences in the last 5 years, so it’s the date of the offences you need to register.
