I agree with your sentiments about them being poorly executed . But entitled drivers ? Have you ever actually looked at the majority of drivers during the day ? I have. Where I live and especially Trinity Road , they are mostly van drivers. Trucks , delivery vans or elderly people . I don’t own a car and I do walk so I don’t have an axe to grind but we do live in a city and roads are roads . I’m more fed up with the entitled cyclist who don’t use the cycle lanes , cycle on pavements and non cycle paths .

I'm not opposed to LTNs  in principle.  Many of them work very well.  I am irritated that H&F have made it  nearly impossible for anyone travelling eastward on the M4/A4 to cross over to Wandsworth.  Now that all the side streets are a no-go, why can they not allow cars to turn right to go southbound on Wandsworth Bridge Road to Wandsworth Bridge?  Having to cross Putney Bridge instead, or circle around Dawes Road/North End Road/Fulham Road/Harwood Road in order to approach from the east and turn left onto Wandsworth Bridge Road is nuts.

Not what the poster above meant by « in order to go where we need to go, we are all required to either bike or flap our arms » as we have great public transport available. Busses in particular are accessible to all, even people in wheelchairs, with small children etc.

Also, anecdotally, my friends living in the LTN in Fulham tell us it is great for residents as their residential street now only has traffic from people living there or visiting, and not all the speeding cars and vans using their street as a shortcut.

I used to be against the LTN concept but I am now convinced.
Good points from @onthecommon above, specifically the fact that businesses might have been failing before and are now claiming it is a consequence of the LTN.

We all know why councils do this, to fleece the motorists with Fines.

The East side of Wandsworth Bridge Road has a camera on Imperial way. Many of us know it well as it issued £3.5m in fines to drivers a year ago. That’s just one location.

The clueless Labour Hammersmith council need that money to balance their books… and it’s no different with Labour Lambeth

Such a shame as I also used to go to the restaurants / shops on Wandsworth bridge road but i no longer go. The only way to get there is by bus and last time i attempted to go the traffic was so bad that I got off the bus and walked. Which i guess is what the aim is but 1) not everyone can walk that distance 2) if you are looking to buy a piece of furniture for example you can't exactly drag it home on the bus and a lot of the shops on that road are / were interior shops. End result I refuse to go anywhere near that part of town which is funny as there are loads of posters from H&F council encouraging people to shop in the area !

As a previous poster said - a very badly executed plan by both H&F and Lambeth coucils !

Oh chorister don’t be such a bore and do pay attention yourself.
I fully recall the trajedy of the commons and why it failed.
However, I did think it was not a great example, if you pay attention in your older years ;)
When it comes to driving cars and the costs entailed then it’s not free in that sense, as per ehe examples already given.
In reality owning a car is expensive …. And road tax etc
Was not talking about bikes.

It was in relation to traffic and congestion.
And you forgot the potential ULEZ AND London congestion charge so actually it’s no zero marginal cost technically speaking…. One could argue .

So there … ;)

Oh muddyboots .... of course it's not free to own a car but ...... it's not about that, it's about the marginal cost of using a shared resource, in this case a particular road, and for all practical purposes that is zero, except possibly at the entry / exit points of the charging zones, which doesn't apply in these cases.

The answer to ending all these pointless money making schemes for TFL, is to get rid of mayor khan by voting for the conservative candidate at the mayors election in may, any other vote is wasted. And NOT leave to someone else Your vote counts or you only have yourself to blame.
The law should also be changed that any fines raised from LTNs and the like should all go to central government not TFL or local councils. The whole scheme would be dropped overnight as costing them money to implement with no PROFIT which is the name of the game not traffic regulation which worked OK for the last 50 years plus and is self regulating!

I could not agree more. I sadly would have hoped for a stronger option and I don't particularly like Susan Hall, but personally as someone that voted for Sadiq Khan in the past, i don't think he has been a good major - from the complete waste of £6M used for the pointless exercise of renaming the Overground lines, to the £120 salary and expensive trips to Australia, Italy and Spain of his night Tsar. And the huge failure - which Sadiq Khan admitted himself last week - of the LTN schemes and the huge costs to fix these.

I really hope people will actually go and vote given the low turnouts of the major elections in the past and my personal hope is a nice goodbye to our current major with his huge money wasting and his hypocrisy driving around in his Range Rover.

While I agree with you about the LTNs being just useless for reducing pollution and in fact make it worse, I think people need to realize you can still park in Fulham and shop on Wandsworth Bridge Road.
The LTN in Streatham Wells is a joke. At least Hammersmith and Fulham have spent money on ANPR to allow their residents to move freely.
You can park on Friston Rd, Bertrand Rd, Clancartty Rd etc but make sure you do NOT go towards Peterborough Road. The purpose of the restrictions are to stop masses of cars cutting through the residential area to go towards Parsons Green.

Agree Roangel!

On the topic of traffic fines being used as cash cows , I’ve been wondering what will happens when the new 20mph zones are introduced on the A3 Clapham Common extension etc
Will they be able to fine motorists on the 20mph roads using existing cameras ?
As Wandsworth famously tried and failed to enforce 20mph fines in Wimbledon as DVLA refused to hand over the driver info as deemed illegal for the purpose and only police can enforce 20 mph fines …
Will they now start nailing people for driving 22 mph??!

We are turning into a spy society , cameras everywhere . Now they are even talking of drones to be used by police to save them time …

Just read that Lambeth Council are suspending the Streatham Wells Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) trial in response to concerns about public transport delays and anticipated disruption from planned Transport for London (TfL) construction works on the A23 starting later this spring.

Couldn't make it up!!

They need to suspend the planners behind it too. Absolutely bats**t!

A question we all need to ask ourselves is who exactly has a vested interest in ensuring the demise of small, local, independent businesses, and at the same time in driving local domestic drivers off the roads in order to free up road space for the multitudes of delivery vans that race around the streets?
Answering this question might well give us a feel for the motivation behind these LTN agendas.
