Newton Prep

Postby Roger Ramjet » Fri May 03, 2024 11:04 pm

We’re looking at schools for reception entry, Sept ‘25 and recently visited Newton Prep. We loved the school, however worried about the commute time from Northcote Road. Question, are there many Newton Prep families living between the commons? It seems as though most people are focused on the usual suspect schools (as were we until we visited NP). Thoughts and experiences appreciated.

Our kids go there and we also live off northcote road.
I wouldn’t say many Newton Prep families come from here but families at Newton Prep come from lots of places (nearby prince of wales drives for the lucky ones to live close by, Chelsea, Balham , etc ). The area immediately around the school is not as residential as around northcote road, so as a result the catchment area of NP is very wide and diversified.
Distance is more of an inconvenience when the kids are very young , but once they get a bit older it’s really not too far. Ours (9 and 11) walk to Clapham junction and then take the train to Battersea park , they are there in 30 mins.
We had a similar dilemma years back and chose NP despite the distance, looking back I don’t regret it. It felt like the right fit for our kids and us as a family at the time and that’s still the case now.
