State primaries on Clapham Common Northside

Postby cordelia » Thu Nov 19, 2009 5:47 pm

I'm thinking of moving to Clapham Common Northside as we love the area and the prices are slightly less insane than between the commons proper. However I can't work out if (a) there is a state primary covering the area (there must be?) and (b) if its any good or (c) whether its better to go private round there. All thoughts welcome!

Hi Cordelia
There is Wix primary school on Wix Rd - it has an ok Osfted report and has just started a biligual stream with the French primary school next door. However most parents if they can afford it send their kids to the local private schools - either Eaton House or Parkgate (both on Northside). Note that both have a long waiting list - our baby has just been born and we had to register already for the 2014 intake at Eaton House!
Hope this helps

Thanks for that - I'll check out Wix's. Isnt it crazy we have to think about all this already! My boy's eleven months and the difficulty for me is that we didnt know where we were moving to til recently so couldnt think about schools. Oh well. What do you know about Eaton House? Is it a caring environment?

private full time nurseries are anything from 1k per month upwards. Private schools are about 3.5k per term from reception.

Ouch! :o

Macaulay Primary is on Victoria Rise, two along from Wix - small church of england school mainly attached to Holy Trinity on the Common but also takes from other CofE schools - received outstanding in Ofsted and RE Ofsted both earlier this year. Other nearby schools would be Heathbrook - again had Ofsted this year, but not sure of result; St Mary's RC School other side of common very good too.
