IVF treatment in Spain or otherwise Post Reply

I'm looking for recommendations for an IVF clinic in Europe (Spain or otherwise). I anticipate I will need more than one cycle and it seems a much more affordable option to travel abroad however I have no idea where to start with choosing a clinic. Thanks in advance.

I don’t know of any specific clinics abroad I’m afraid. You sound sure that it’s IVF you need. I don’t know what stage you are in IVF treatment or age. There is NHS funding if you meet the criteria and less invasive treatment such as IUI. There is also egg sharing if this is an option for you. Some centres offer this to give you reduced cost IVF. Depending on your reason for IVF, there could be investigations on the NHS that could help you first.

I had success at the Lister years ago but it wasn’t cheap. At the time I remember forums talked about a clinic in Barcelona that did egg donation but I don’t know the details. I know of a friend that travelled to Greece for treatment. It didn’t work for her there was the logistics of flights, time off work etc to consider. It still became a very expensive process so do consider the pros and cons.

Other forums such as Fertility Friends may be helpful in answering your specific IVF questions, they certainly helped me at the time especially with the emotional side of it all.

Another vote for IVI clinic(s). They have clinics all over Spain including Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga - definitely more affordable than UK. As Leathwaitegirl mentioned below, they also worked collaboratively with fertility clinic/hospitals in the UK. For example, for some procedures like an HSG it might be more economical/convenient to have that procedure done locally in the UK and have the results sent to IVI and then continue with the process in Spain. The other advantage of going to Spain for IVF is that, if you need donation (either or both), then there is full donor anonymity in perpetuity. I’m not sure that’s the case in the UK.

I froze my eggs with Ivi in 2019. I was able to do all the prep and appointments in their London clinic and go to Barcelona just for a he retrieval procedure. 5 stars for me. I never used the eggs so can’t speak for later stages of IVF. Good luck. It’s a lot to go through, I hope it all works out.
