Does anyone know of a good santas grotto to take the little ones to? i really want to avoid west end so that rules out Selfriges, winter wonderland etc; Something more "local" would be great Any recomendations?

Debenhams in Clapham Junction always have a Santa's Grotto where they toys and kid's clothes are. I've been thee a few times and with my boy when he was still really small, and I found it was good. You also avoid the costs of paying for pics and can take them yourself xxx

Bockett's farm - not quite on the doorstep but well worth the drive. Have frequented many times.

That's great, many thanks for the ideas - very pleased that Debenhams Clapham Jnctn has a Santa , we'll be off to visit there. On the farm front - the one at Garsons farm Esher is supposed to be very good.

On December 3rd, Holy Ghost School is having a Christmas fair with Santa... you can take as many pictures as you want and the kids get a little gift. Very sweet way to see him. x

Try the Christmas fair at Telferscot Primary School on Sat December 10th! They have a great grotto with Santa and elfs and you can get your photo taken and a gift, and all the proceeds go to a good cause (rather than Debenhams' pocket!). Also all the fun Christmas stalls and activities to enjoy as well.

Hi

Meet Santa at the Clapham NCT Cheeky Monkey Christmas Party at Broomwood Methodist Church on Saturday 10 December between 2.30-4.30pm. There will be plenty of activities for children including arts & crafts, biscuit decorating and Monkey Music.

Chessington Garden Centre (just beyond the World of Adventures going south on the A243) Lovely displays, timed slots and much quieter in the week. £8 per child and £2 per adult. Book tickets on line and you can see the displays from the previous years to get an idea.

Whilst you are there -the Aquatic centre is good for a quick look as there are windows cut out of the tanks so the fish are at a small persons height and also exotic creatures for sale that are quite fun to look at.

The cafe is nice as is the children's book section. We normally go in half term / holidays as it is not a obvious kids attraction going to a garden centre so not busy and it's free.

Peter Jones always have a good Santa. You normally get given a time slot, but there is always a queue. It generally moves quite quickly. Kids get given a book and are always very excited to have met Santa in the flesh! It's also a good opportunity to get some Xmas shopping done. You will need to check, but I think he is there at the weekends leading up to Xmas.

Just to let you know I rang Debenhams about their Santa Grotto in the CJ store as I couldn't see anything on the website. Unfortunately I was advised that they weren't having one this year. :(

I took my niece last year to santas grotto on the south bank - we had to book but as it was off peak it was really quiet. It was around £10 but they got a lovely age appropriate present and a photo. Also great fun for adults as santa told stories about the parents being naughty and nearly not getting presents which the children found hilarious !!! Lasted around half an hour. Merry Christmas.
