Any plans for Wandsworth to increase charges for SUVs? Post Reply

Considering getting a new car and leaning toward an SUV.

However, I’ve noticed that many councils are increasing parking charges for larger vehicles, and cities like Paris have already implemented similar measures.

Does anyone know if there are plans to introduce this in Wandsworth?

I'm pretty certain that, at least informally, basing residents' parking charges on vehicle weight has been looked at though I don't know where it's got to.  May be speak to your councillor.

But why on earth get one of those monstrosities anyway?  Do you really think that all the data about the environmental and climate damage they do is made up?

If you already have a car why not keep it?  A very large part of the lifetime carbon footprint of any car is incurre in simply manufacturing it.

Get a hybrid or electric SUV and you can then benefit from the Greener Vehicle permits, which are cheaper than for normal petrol vehicles

I think the push is towards emissions rather than vehicle size or weight, and even if that changes, you can simply sell the car.
At least that way, you benefit from the advantages of having the size of car you need in the meantime

A Tesla Y is a decent midway.

That is from the former owner of a couple of Discovery4s and Range Rovers.

No it won’t tow 3500kg and you can’t put a 850kg pallet in the back. I did both of this things at various times. But do you need that in a family car?

But it does have a family sized boot (if you also use the front boot where the engine isn’t. And it is very quiet. And the kids love it. Dad also prefers driving it!

BTW I drive the new Range Rover off-road a few weeks back and the electronics failed ant every steep descent. Seriously unimpressed with it.

Thats exactly what the data is, it is made up to control us. 

Labour and the council engineers have a war on the motorist, to use it as a cash cow. Pay per mile is the next big project they will force on us, they have the city overed in the ULeZ cameras now. Pay per mile has been worked on in TfL since pre-covid, it’s not going away, just slowly they will get the infrastructure right and then it will happen.

Thats one of the the whole points of the ULeZ expansion, get the cameras in.
