Southfields Playgroups

Postby peasepudding » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:27 am

My twins have been going to the Babies & Crawlers Southmead Children's Centre on Wednesday mornings every week but now they're walking we need something new. Southmead told me they think there is a playgroup on Wednesday mornings at a place called Trap Door (?) on Beaumont Road, which is off Augustus Road, but couldn't give me any more information than that. Does anyone know anything about it? Or do you have any other recommendations for a Wednesday morning playgroup? We did go to the one at St Michael's Church for a while but I've gone back to work and they don't let children attend without a parent.

The playgroup is in beaumont road in the open door community centre..

It is very good, lovely brand new toys and lovely staff. With hot drinks and biscuits for adults and drinks and rice cakes for kiddies. Its free, but accepts donations...
Adults have to stay tho.

Its open 10 till 12 I think

Kind regards

Thanks! They will have our nanny with them so they will be able to go.

When I said St Michael's don't let children attend without a parent I meant that my nanny wasn't allowed to take them! Seemed very odd to me, excluding children from a local community organisation just because their parents work.

I have also been turned away from a playgroup in Southfields, as a nanny with my charges as only mothers w their children are allowed. Nice to see that the spirit of inclusivity is alive and well!

I have also had problems with the St Michaels playgroup. However, I stood my ground and sent my nanny with my two children. I had been going to the playgroup whilst on maternity leave and when I went back to work was told that nannies were not welcome. I pointed out that someone had to pay the bills and that my children were part of the community and that they were excluding them not my nanny. I have to say that they tolerated my nanny but I mean "tolerated". They never spoke to her and were downright rude. I felt like writing to the vicar as I suspect that this is not church policy but the decision of the mothers who were running the group, not very "christian" at all.
If you have been going along with the children I would carry on sending them with the nanny. I know of other nannies that go there, albeit not very many and they do have thick skins!

What you say about St Michael's playgroup is wrong.

I do not know what happened there before 2010, but for two years now, approx. 50% of the users of St Michael's playgroup hosted nannys. And they do very well there:)

I am a parent and use the playgroup every Tuesday and Wednesday. I know everyone who uses St Michael's playgroup, and defines those as friends of mine.

I do not think there are so many other drop in playgroups that can say the same.
