Bridesmaid's Dress Crisis

Postby mummimimi » Fri Jan 13, 2012 8:28 am

My little sister is getting married in March and is having a nightmare finding bridesmaid dresses for four grown up bridesmaids. Admittedly things aren't made any easier by the facts that we are all very different sizes (6 - 12/14) and that she wants them to be long, blue and to have straps. We've looked at all the usual places on the high street but to no avail.

Does anyone have any good suggestions as to where to go next? We're running out of time and I can't hack another 4 hour ramble around Westfield with a teary bride!!!

All suggestions very gratefully received!

We had similar problem for my sisters wedding. Three bridesmaids size 8, 12 and 22! We went to a shop in Richmond after a similar shopping trip where everyone ended up in tears! It stocks dessy which is an American make so goes up really high in sizes. It has a million designs in a million colours so you can get same dress in all sizes or different dresses in same colour. Can't remember name of it currently but will try to get it from my sister. Good luck!

Found it-Silhouettes Bridal Gowns, 10 Richmond Hill, Richmond, Surrey
Telephone: 0208 241 2421. They don't have everything on dessy website (if you look you'll see why- they literally have every dress shape/ design you can imagine!). Cost wise not too expensive, quality wise....... Look good for the day!

I used a dress maker who can do anything you want...

http://www.beaumonde.uk.com/

She works fast and at all different cost levels. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. She has altered bridesmaid dresses for me from the US... as well as made me one from scratch. It will fit perfectly and look amazing on everyone, so if that is the worry, she will take it from you!

Good Luck.

I had the same problem when I got married with bridesmaids ranging in size from size 8-16. I also got Dessy dresses which were brilliant. I very naughtily took my bridesmaids to the shop in Richmond which has been mentioned above and tried them on to check sizes/styles etc... and then ordered directly from the US!

Hope she manages to get it sorted out x

We had Alfred Angelo bridesmaid dresses for our wedding. They were gorgeous but I from memory I think we had to order them a while in advance although you may be able to buy them off the shelf too. If you go onto their website you can search for stores close to where you / bridesmaids live. One of my bridesmaids lived in the north of england so it was perfect that somewhere there could fit and order the dress for her. The great thing about those dresses are that they fit and flatter any size/shape.
There is a wedding dress shop (Teokath) on falcon road by clapham junction which stocked them when we got married a couple of years ago.

Good luck with the dress hunt and the wedding.

I also wanted strapped dresses and found them hard to find as I had sizes 8 through to 16!! I used ribbons and pearls in cookham - a beautiful place and the shop was full of gorgeous weddin stuff. I choose a ronald Joyce bridesmaid dress 29621 but it was 2 years ago they were beautiful and loved by all. Good luck.

My little sister got married in September and we got our dresses from Two Birds http://www.twobirdsbridesmaid.com/. Can't recommend them highly enough, 6 bridesmaids, 6 different sizes, all very happy, that's a pretty could run rate! Hope you have a fabulous day!
