What to do in the rain?!

Postby AbbevilleMummy » Sat Apr 28, 2012 1:51 pm

So I'm looking for ideas!

This weather is so awful and nearly every day I draw a blank as to what to do with my littles ones.

Would love some suggestions as to what the rest of you do or where you go on these dreadful days we're having!

It's so depressing!

Free things:
Tate modern. We go there and join all the other parents who know the secret of letting toddlers run about in the giant turbine hall for free! It is a bit dark though, but good or a very rainy day.

The garden in the science museum. Water play area and discovery zone I the basement, place to eat packed lunches as well. Can get busy though. Don't do it on a weekend!

Imperial war museum. Sounds boring, but quite good with toddlers as it's big enough to explore, but not get lost.

Library . Even if you don't take out a book, it kills time and you can read books whilst your there.

One o'clock clubs; battersea park is great.

There is a nice children's library on battersea park road.

Battersea arts centre, the bees knees, free indoor garden.

Make your own play dough with flour and water

Finger Painting

Washing up bowl full of bubbles and lots of things to 'wash up'. My daughter loves this. I put towels down on the floor and she plys quite happily for ages, washing up her plastic animals and spoons!
Not free:

Eddie catz in Putney is good
Pottery cafe
Play zone upstairs in the latch mere, only £3.50, it's a bit grotty but very well designed and quite large. My 20month old had a great time there and we played for about three hours with a break for lunch. Great value.

Gambado Chelsea
Swimming

Hope there's something in there!

Xx :D

Horniman is well worth a visit. And not actually too far if you drive

Thought bees knees at BAC had closed?

I share your pain! Am 38 weeks pregnant with number two, feeling like a housebound hippo and struggling to entertain a very energetic 2 year old.

This is what I've come up with...

* Get a load of sheets/ towels and cushions and make a den under the dining table
* Make flapjacks - cheap, easy and pretty toddler proof. These ones are yummy http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/flapjacks_86993
* 'Cutting and sticking' - use kids scissors, prit stick, glitter, stickers, and any old catalogues or magazines you have lying around
* Make a pizza - use those ready made bases, get a tube of tomato puree, grate some cheese, and put a few different toppings in little bowls. Let them go wild!
* I have tasked my mum to trawl the charity shops for me and help me put together a dressing up box.... will see how that one works out
* Cbeebies?!

We have also got kitted up in wet weather gear and been for a walk to the shops - all the way looking for 'muddy puddles' to jump in - just like Peppa Pig. That one went down very well!!

Bring on the sunshine (bring on the baby!)
