Travellers on Tooting Common

Postby janieb » Mon May 28, 2012 3:33 pm

Hi,
Just letting you all know that a group of Travellers have landed on Tooting Common, on the left side of the common at the top of Bedford Hill, it's the side where the new playground is located, about 5 mins walk from there.
I have spoken with Wandsworth Council and they have informed me that they are moving as quickly as legally possible, they are aware and advise local residents to be as vigilant as always. If an emergancy occurs, dial the police straight away, for non emergancy dial 0208 871 6900.
They arrived in the night and currently there are 4 caravans, hopefully it doesnt increase in size and they will be evicted quietly and quickly.

kind regards,

Interesting.

Seems it happens every year. Same family and they move on quite quickly.

This is a picture of them.

To be honest they do look a bit like a family on a caravanning holiday.

I know that probably sounds awful but I expected them to be dressed in huge flowery wedding dresses and motor bikes over the Common

a cheaper alternative to renting to get rights to enter the school of their choice, not forgetting siblings rights.
I'm going to pitch a tent on Wandsworth common to get mine into the Northcote 2.
What do you think my chances are?

What's wrong with that? I take my son there regularly and thought it was rather nice! kind of like a mini festival...plus I stopped and had a look at a little boy who looked totally free in the sun enjoying himself
With rent sooo high these days who can blame them?
Maybe we should think about the reason why these people are there, it's never soo simple!!!

HOW MANY PARKING TICKETS DID THEY GET?

I pay my taxes and for a resident's parking permit so that I can park outside the house I have bought.

If I, as a Wandsworth resident, park on Northcote Road and stay over my allotted time by a few minutes I get a fine of around 80 quid.

If I refuse to pay that the fine is escalated until baliffs are sent to my house with the right to take "goods to the value of".

So I am assuming that the travellers must have had tens of parking tickets for parking a convoy on the Common. And as we have their number plates we know the registered addresses where to serve the notices.

Does anyone know how many tickets they were served?

I mean, they did get parking tickets didn't they?

They're back!

How many parking tickets do they get this time?

I bet it's none.

I just posted on the other thread.

There's only 2 caravans now and when I went past they were tidying up - so looked like they were moving on.

I know it's illegal but I sort of feel a bit sorry for them.

@northcoteluvvy: i really dont like your first post, you sound mean and petty. People have different circumstances and different background. You should be proud of yourself being able to pay taxes, to be able to afford to buy a roof over your head, live legally here (and not sleeping in caravan on the common knowing you ll be evicted in the next day or so). I m not making excuses for them by the way, just saying that your situation is uncomparable to theirs so a bit of modesty will not kill anyone but just help for a better world to live in. Amen
