We've used The Cattery in S Norwood many times and our cats have always been well looked after. It's not as local as you might like but it really doesn't take long to get there.

Last time we couldn't get the neighbours to feed the cat whilst we were away we arranged for the girl from David Cuffe Vets on Abbeville Road to feed him.
Not cheap but probably less than a cattery and as he loves to be outside in the garden he was a very happy cat.

I have found a great place online called mindmyhouse.com. If you don't want to use a cattery, you let someone stay in your house while you are away and they look after your pe for free. I was a bit dubious about it, but there are lots of retired couple who just want to do a bit of travelling on a small budget/ blog writers who are saving on rent etc. if they would hate the cattery, it's an option. - although i know not everyone would be up for having house guests! :)

We've used sitting kitty she is lovely and has always filtered us in. Are you sure a neighbour wouldn't do it? We now have a neighbour who does it for us. I am sure that's all part of the big society!

Hello, I am Gerry from www.aristocats.uk.com Aristocats cat and small pet minding service. I am a qualified vet nurse and have been catsitting in this area for the last 16 years, I am sure we are the longest established vet nurse run sitting service! It is my full time job, although from my rather odd login name you see I also run a small craft business doing writing on rice grains as gifts amongst many other things!
Have a look at my website and give me a call if you would like to arrange to meet/book....

Hi, maybe a little late to reply to your post but for future reference we always use The Cattery in Anerley. The owners are really lovely and they even collect and drop off your cat/s from your house! Although it not that far to drive to. Our cat has always been looked after well for many years.
