Re: Fake Doctor Warning

Nope, just checked. Still plain as day says consultant psychiatrist.
Yet again, I restate that I am sure she is a great nanny, but the profile needs to say she is one.
Anyone using the Westover generally goes for MEDICAL help, if the site says your OB/ GYN is a doctor, you assume it is true. I don't background check and verify the credentials of every GP etc. I see (maybe I should!), so anyone making an appointment to see K. might, without further research (as I know someone has) assume they are seeing a psychiatrist specialising in family therapy.
I am sure she would put them right, but not before a vulnerable person may have been distressed. That it is misleading is unfortunate, that isn't corrected, is just not right. Mistakes happen, but then get cleared up. I asked 4 times for them to alter the site, zip!
I do word of mouth Family Consultancy, I do not make any claims to be a medical consultant, I do not even advertise. As a trainee doctor, I know full well the consequences.
I am glad you had a good experience with K. Her work as a nanny is not in doubt. Westover just need to correct their site and as a professnal, responsible for how she is portrayed, K. needs to ensure that they do. As of 11pm it is still up. I don't wish anyone any harm, which is why I brought it to attention, as I was hoping some peer pressure would finally get some action as I had not been successful. K's reputation would be far more damaged by it staying up an having the error corrected surely??

I also checked and can see no mention of the word psychiatrist. She is listed as "parental consultant" (or "bespoke nanny") under "therapists" along with a number of other non-medical people - humanist counsellor, homeopath, etc.

Maybe your browser has somehow stored an old version of the website?

Good suggestion. Just rechecked from scratch. It's therapists, then going to her profile. Still there. Ah well.

I just looked and it definitely still says it on her profile page next to her photo...

I was reading this thread with interest and wanted to see what the fuss was all about. To clarify, if you Google Kathryn's name and Westover, there is indeed still "Consultant Psychiatrist" mentioned on her entry, just before her education from Norland College. However, nowhere on her own website she mentions this qualification again or in any other media, so it is strange that Westover will not do something about it and correct the entry when told about the error. If anything, in my opinion the clinic should be held responsible for misleading, not the consultant!

I tend to agree, but as she works with/for them it's a bit 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. I imagine the only people with editing rights are the clinic's IT people and the practice managers. I just don't understand why with repeated information, they haven't done anything. Certainly I imagine any action taken, if any were, is likely to put the onus on Westover. Just seems unprofessional to me. No-one is perfect but we expect the medical profession to have a high degree of ethics, I know I do. Breaking GMC guidelines isn't a very good advert. Although an IT error is pretty minor, in the scheme of things, it amounts, unfortunately to more, when medicolegal stuff gets involved. It's so easy to fix, I just don't get it!

Dear All

I feel terrible for all of the concern about my title. I am Kathryn Mewes. A Norland Nanny with 20 years experience, an author and I now have my own business where I enter family homes and help parents to resolve eating, sleeping and behaviour concerns they have with their children. I require 3 days to make a drastic change.

I am sorry to hear that the Westover have my title incorrect. They have been informed and are very sorry for the error. I am known as a Parental Consultant which describes exactly what I do.

The Westover have undergone extensive change in the last 3 months with premises moving and staff changing. The business pressure has been very high.

I do apologise on behalf of The Westover and would ask that if anyone is concerned please look at my website to understand more about my service or call me on 07787 821525 and I will answer any questions you may have.

Again I send my apologies to you all.

I emailed Kathryn only yesterday about this post (after retrieving her details off of her website). She has responded immediately and I thank you for that Kathryn.

If the original poster had actually bothered to do this in the first place or to of at least tried to call her before posting her name in shame then it would of saved a lot of negativity over her name.

I'm sure you could of sorted this out with her rather putting a post on here. I hope no one ever says a bad word about you in the future.

Dilligaf. Honestly! I did email, on the contact given by the clinic, and twice to Westover and called the clinic twice. I am glad it is sorted. Obviously no harm was meant, I never suggested it was. I happen to think it is important though to have safeguards in place for the very rare few who do harm....not that I ever suggested that in this case. As a society we are responsible for ourselves and for others. I stop and help crying lost toddlers in supermarkets too if anyone wants to pillorise me for that too. I would rather I stop and question and help, than leave, turn my back, condone or ignore, and let something worse happen by default.
As a child I was horrified that adults witnessed a crying James Bulger being led off by and didn't intervene just in case. I swore there and then I wouldn't ever let that person be me.
I would rather address the violent mother knocking her child to the floor in Sainsbury's and condoned by the check-out lady who said I should mind my own business, than ignore it.
I WILL ask the crying teen on the street if she is okay or needs help. I will smile at the black kids in the hoodies and skateboards if they look my way. If I get a mouthful so be it.
I am not comparing this to any of those situations, just illustrating my attitude. K.M. Is a lovely lady, I am sure, who helps a lot of people and has had unfortunate IT issues on the site in question, but I don't apologise for checking and addressing the issue. All cases are not benign and if we ignore them all and attack people who question, then where will we be?
So sorry to K for any distress caused, I'm sure as a childcare professional she understands the duty of care we have to the vulnerable and the need for accurate representation, in fact I don't doubt it.
The title is still up, but I'm sure it will be rectified soon.

Hi,

I am the Operations Director for The Westover. The administration error found on The Westover website was corrected upon the first occasion we were made aware of it and the person who raised these concerns was advised verbally of the change.

Upon subsequent revisions of the site unrelated to this issue, the page in question has reverted to the incorrect version. We have now corrected this issue for the second and final time.

Apologies for any concerns caused by this administration error. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly should you wish to discuss this matter.

Hi Guys
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread.

I've now locked it as everyone involved has had an opportunity to take part.

Obviously this does not stop anyone starting a similar topic again but I think this particular thread has run its course.

Thank you to everyone for using NappyValleyNet.
