How do i get rid of mice?

Postby Jetsettingbaby » Thu Jan 03, 2013 10:34 pm

We have had one mouse in our house for the past month i have tried everything bar poison to get rid of it. We went away over christmas and we arrived back today with the whole house filled with mouse droppings.. no not being dramatic i mean everywhere , bedrooms bathroom , kitchen! i feel sick. I got the house cleaned before we left, so its not like we left trails of food for them.. but seems that mouse has had a full on rave in our house while we are away.. Has anyone got any advice on how to get rid of them for good! they seem to be too smart for all the traps, sticky tape, ect. Was really trying to avoid poison as i do not want my son to get his hands on it or even close to it. but is this the only way? Is there a mouse exterminator ?
thanks in advance

Oh that is so horrible :(
We use these guys - http://www.pestcontrolservices.co.uk/
They are based in Tooting and do a guaranteed for 3 months service for somewhere in the vicinity of £130. They fill holes and gaps and give good advice too. They put the poison generally away under benches etc so I'd feel fairly comfortable with it in my house with my rampaging 2 year old around.
Hope you can sort it soon.

We used this guy http://www.indigopestcontrol.co.uk/loca ... -sw13.html
He was brilliant, and very conscientious about where poison etc. went due to 2 toddlers and a dog! Good luck! There is nothing worse than feeling under attack in your own home, we have had a hideous invasion of moths and then mice in the last couple of years, and I found it horribly stressful! Especially as I am particularly clean and tidy, almost obsessively so!

I'm so sorry to hear that - we had a few mice for ages and we couldn't afford to get in rentokil so I laid traps filled with peanut butter in the places where we thought they were coming into the house. That really worked (chocolate does too btw) but it dies mean you need to get rid of the dead mice yourself :(

The other thing to do is fill all the holes where they are likely to be entering with wire wool as they can't chew through that.

Good luck!

Argh... We have had mice. They love clean houses I think... Had someone come and fill holes with something that looks like a brillo pad and it has poison on it. It is harmless to people, animals, but burns the mouse on the paws and nose.. so they hate it. Although it traps them in your house too so you have to lay traps as well to catch the ones "stuck inside"... We caught a couple inside and had NO MORE! No more droppings or anything.

With all that said, if you can, get a CAT. They are the best at solving these issues. My friends have them solely to get rid of mice and they work. BRILLIANTLY. We just couldn't because of allergy issues...

Good Luck.

Vermaway company are good. Just came three times.

They have to be poisoned and holes filled otherwise you will never get rid of them. The hole filling is crucial. It took 2 hours to do our house! Every house in SW11 that we've moved into there have been mice and I HATE THEM!

OMG I am too freaking out. We had mice a year back and it was only ever me that would hear and see them. My hubbie filled all holes and finally found the one they were coming from as for once he actually saw it scuttle there. Since then we didn't see anymore.

Anyways I was sat in the front room the other night and I could swear I could hear scratching (I'm always so hyper sensitive as have had a massive phobia all my life). Ignored the scratching and then last night sat on my bed I could hear it again, turned the tv down and it went away. 5 minutes later heard a rustling noise under my bed which didn't stop. Scarpered out of the room and slept in a different room. Hubbie left out a trap but nothing this morning.

I am so freaking out and just literally can't handle them. I know in my heart there's one there. It causes so many arguments as hubbie doesn't understand how you can be so scared, sleepless nights, never able to relax anywhere you walk. I just wish I had a second home I could go to for a week so there gone.

Any 2 bedroom hotels!?

I lived at our last house in SW18 for 10 years with no mice but we had carpets everywhere or tiles so no holes.

After seeing the mouse last night I filled every hole that I could find with wire wool, ordered a trap from homebase, contacted the firm mentioned in an earlier post & then a large glass of wine as I was so freaked out. I haven't found any droppings or crumbs but I'm not stopping until I have a dead mouse.

Ever since we got our two cats four years ago I've not seen a single moose in our hoose - before that we were overrun with the beasts. If you're not allergic to them they are definitely the best solution as they act as a deterrent too.

Hi,
We had mouse problem before, we blocked the holes, put traps, never caught anything, only droppings. It has been clear for a few weeks, hopefully they are gone!

Has anyone try this Procter Pest-Stop Ultrasonic and Electromagnetic Pest Repeller for Whole House by Procter Bros Ltd???
You plug in and it repels mice and other crawling insects.
The description sounds really good but I wonder if really works!

I would consider to get a CAT but My son and I are allergic.

go to screwfix online, buy lots of traps and SECURE tiny bit of Sknickers in the trap.

Otherwise, I agree, poison is the way forward, unfortunately, i have messy lodgers so the mice are not hungry for the poison, i have been trying to resolve my mouse problem for months.
