Recommendations for an IFA

Postby clare74 » Tue Apr 26, 2011 2:11 pm

With our first baby on the way very soon, I'm keen to review the family finances - pensions, life insurance, mortgage, investments, wills etc. Does anyone have a good independent financial advisor that they can recommend? Thanks!

Hi

I used Ana de la Quintana - she was recommended on this site for 'wills' a little while back but we had her do everything, she was great.
Her number is 0208 446 3231. Good luck getting sorted - its such a relief when its all in order :)

Thanks TPTP - really good to have somewhere to start, and there's a lot to be done!

Mark Sikora at Business Design centre, islington nr Angel. I met him first years ago when I needed pension advice (had a free initial meeting ) and since then he was a mortgage whizz and more recently for life assurance update. Worth a trip north of the river. He's friendly, honest and knowledgeable. Tel 020 7288 6400, email mark@gmpifa.co.uk

Hello - i am keen to find an IFA specifically for some advice on pensions and savings. It has been a while since this thread was updated - does anyone have any recent experience of any of the above or any others?

Thanks

George Lyall and colleagues at Dickson Dees on the wealth management side are very good, and I've used them for a number of things over the past few years.

Beware - the whole IFA industry changes completely on 1st Jan 2013.

Read up on the impact of the 'Retail Distribution Review'. They will have to
a) be qualified (ask what quals they have and look it up)
b) charge you fees ONLY, (not take any commission)
and
c) have no bias toward product outcome AT ALL

This is good for you, but means that everything that has gone before is a very poor indicator of the future. It is a very major change in the way the financial services market works - take care

I would choose someone who has been charging FEES ONLY for at least 12 months and preferably 2 years, it means they are well ahead of the market and very savvy.

They should also recommend putting any product you already have onto a NO FURTHER COMMISSION BASIS, this could save you a fortune and make performance of existing products you already have MUCH BETTER ...... everyone should get their IFAs to do this!!! but they won't want to.

I am an IFA, employed by Brooks MacDonald. I have been a fee based adviser for many years which means I can be fully independent and am not motivated by simply selling products.
Having a daughter of 18 months and living locally means I am likely to understand some on your financial concerns as I more than likely will have the same issues to deal with myself! Please feel free to contact me for a free initial meeting or chat:

Thanks,
Naomi

I got in touch with Naomi Keith after searching here for an IFA. She was fantastic with her advice. It was great to be able to speak to a local mum who understood my situation and was not intimidating as I imagined an IFA might be!

Thanks Naomi.

Julian - are you looking for a local accountant? If not and you're happy dealing with someone over the phone/ email I can highly recommend Ben at Towers and Gornall - 01254828888. He sorts out my CT, VAT and SA returns.
