Builder recommendation for side return extension Post Reply

Please let me know if you can recommend a good building company - we are looking into getting our side return extension done. Any first had experience and tips welcome. Dreading the dust already. Thanks!

I am sorry to say it but we used Matt two years ago to do new kitchen floor. It was tilled, electric, heated floor and they completely messed it up! The tiles started to pop up within few months and the whole floor was ruined and not good. He did come back for one day, very annoyed, to rectify it but he just corrected few tiles and that was it. We were gutted, the whole floor had to be done again because they didn't use a special mat under the tiles. Since then we've had the whole floor re-done by a different builder.

We used build London & were pleased with the work they did. They were also one of the cheaper quotes we got which was a bonus as some companies were trying to charge nearly twice the amount!

Fine Arrow are excellent, they have literally gutted our whole house and re done it from scratch, ie removing all plaster etc and also doing a side return and first floor extension. Let me know if you want a number, they work really hard and the foreman is a delight and really goes above and beyond. Can't fund fault with them which on a 8 month long job for us I think is unusual!

Hi there

I would like to recommend with my whole heart (!!) my builder, Rob Hilder of Focus Refurbishment. He is just about to complete a loft/side extn for me and I have used him on many projects on other houses over the last 8 years.

The latest project has been, without doubt, the most awful experience of our lives due to a hideous party wall dispute with our neighbours. Neither me, Rob, nor our own party wall surveyor, had experienced anything like it and it resulted in a 6 month project taking almost two years. Many other builders would have run a mile and I wouldn't have blamed them - I wished many times that I could! But Rob stuck with us through stops, starts, arguments, and many changes in design remaining cheerful, positive and professional throughout.

On top of that, his work is really great quality, and he is truly the most honest, reliable and completely trustworthy builder I've ever dealt with.

I know this post will sound that I am probably related to him (!) but I assure you I'm not. I just want to repay him for the nightmare he has been through with us on this latest project. Do give him a call on 07887 621545.
