Burgled! SW11

Postby Boune » Mon Apr 29, 2013 3:23 pm

Just wanted to let you guys to know that we have been burgled over the weekend.
Please, pay attention when you leave your house even for a night out!

We live on Stormont Road, just off the Common. We were enjoying a weekend away, however our friends were visiting London and were staying in our property. While our guests were away for a meal out and theatre someone came and took their car keys, 2 laptops, ipad, our ipod and that's pretty much it. I guess we are lucky in a way that none of our stuff was stolen apart from an ipod and no damage done to a property. Everything was left very neat and tidy and our fridns only noticed that something was wrong because one of the bedside cabinets was opened.
Whoever it was, got in via the garden and easily opened bi-fold doors with a scredriver. I take it he/she left in a hurry (disturbed by neighbous coming back? phone call?) and pretty much all valuables are still here.
We don't have an alarm, were thinkiung of installing it next month. Will have to hurry up now, I guess...

Our next door neighbours were burgled over Chrismas despite ADT boxes in from and at the back of their house.

Just want to say how sorry I am to hear that you have been burgled over the weekend. Quite a few of my neighbours have been burgled whilst they have been asleep, and only noticed that things were missing once they have got up in the morning. I have had an alarm fitted by GC Alarms who have very friendly and helpful staff. Their alarm systems are much more competitively priced than SDS and as I have two cats, they fitted my house with sensors on all the windows and doors. I put the alarm on at night are feel totally safe without setting it off by walking into a room. If the alarm has been activated it automatically calls my mobile to tell me so. I also have motion sensor lights on the front and the back of my house.

I would highly recommend this company as no job is too small. They also have fitted all the CCTV and alarms in Emanuel school.

Really sorry to hear this.

Can I ask a bit more about how they got into the bi fold doors with a screwdriver? We're they locked? Are they metal or wood? Did they just force them open or did they dismantle them in some way?

Thanks very much

JThomas,
There are aluminium doors, which were obviously locked. There are some scratches left on the orside but very minor. Police could not see how they could be openeed with a scredriver, but here we are.

abbemc,
Thank you for advise re alarm. My husban is not shopping around and hopefully will have it installed by end of next week.

I was burgled 2 years back, there are lots of nasty people that love to break into homes between the commons. A friend is a CSI for the met and says it's the same nasties in the same area and they just can't get evidence to convict them. They broke in to patio doors, locked, then got into my flat on teh 1st floor through a bathroom window they jammed open. We now have ADT motion sensors, touch sensors and flashing boxes. Touch wood, so far so good. Terrible how quickly they can get in and take your things.

We were burgled on webbs rd a couple of years back on a summer Friday evening between 6pm and 10pm. There was no visible damage to the door so couldn't understand how they had gotten in. The door was Yale but not Chubb locked and police said they can use a device to slide down door and pull the Yale lock back. Apparently would not have happened if we'd used the Chubb too.

Perhaps I'm being overly cynical but abbemc's post reads like advertising for GC Alarms. I have no idea how they compare to SDS, but surely posters should have to declare an interest if they are connected to a company they recommend?

Bonj (no connection to either company)

Hi again. I must say that our garden is easily accessible despite being mid-terrace. It does not border with another garden from the house opposite - there is just a garage and street. We have an alarm installed next week so should feel safer when leaving for holidays etc.
