Allfarthing primary admission distance

Postby bear12 » Sat May 11, 2013 11:23 am

Hi

Does anyone happen to know the max admission metre distance for Allfarthings this year? Would be interesting to know as we are potentially buying a house very near but want to know if its near enough!

Thanks

Don't know the exact distance but i know it went as far as Geraldine, top end of westside but not Quarry Road or lower end of Cicada. Waiting list is still moving though.

Also, they are thinking of adding an extra class - not sure if 2014 or 2015.

Thanks, that's really helpful. It's so hit and miss I guess year to year depending on siblings etc but fingers crossed we would be ok.

Last year it was about 350 metres as the crow flies. Friends tell me Swaffield is on the up though and has two reception classes (or possibly even three) so you should be covered

You could give the council a ring and ask them. The admission team can provide the distance of the furtherest offer made in April.

LAst year the catchment area was very tight from ALfarthing school and my little girl didn't get into reception even though we appealed. She is now in Swaffield and I have to say I am absolutely thrilled with the school, The headteacher, Ms. Lillie is amazing and knows all the parents and children despite the size of the school. It is a very happy, fun school with a great atmosphere. I am really pleased with Swaffield.

IF i had to make a choice again would put Swaffield as my number one choice every time!

Thanks for all your replies, I spoke to the council and apparently this year it was 281m on offer day. I'm also def going to consider Swaffield as there have been so many positive reports.... Glad there are some good schools on the up, it's all so stressful!

Agree with MustyTD - Swaffield is lovely, I couldn't recommend it more! There are actually 3 reception classes, so a 90 pupil intake. It doesn't feel as big as you would think, though, and Mrs Lilley does know every child by name - it's incredible! The children adore her - they flock to her in the morning for a hug, which is lovely to see :) We're really happy there. I actually removed my daughter from the waiting lists for Allfarthing, Belleville and Honeywell after she started at Swaffield. We wouldn't move her! :)

Hi

We looked at Allfarthing and Swaffield (as well as a load of others) for our son last year and I have to say that I loved them both but if I had to choose I would say that going on the open days I preferred Swaffield. But when it came to applying we put Allfarthing as our number one choice as it is the 'better school' on paper (we are very boarder line in terms of catchment). We didn't get Allfarthings but got into Swaffield and I have to say that I am not disappointed at all. I thought Swaffield was a wonderful school and all the kids we spoke to during the open day loved it there and I think our son will be really happy there too.

As parents we are looking forward to being involved and as the school is not ' Ofsted outstanding' they have something to aspire to. I think Swaffield is vastly over-looked in the area as everyone is so blinked about Honeywell and Bellevue. I would suggest that you look at all the schools around you as you may be surprised by how good some of the other ones are and have a better chance of getting into them!

But what ever you do, make sure you house is near some schools. We have so many friends that moved into the area without thinking of their children's schools and assumed that they would get into one of the good ones and have all missed out on them as they are just outside the catchment area. We moved from between the commons to Earlsfield area because we preferred Swaffield and Allfarthings to Bellevue and Honeywell.

Good luck.
