Don't panic or push your baby. I weaned my son at 6 months - and he loved food but my daughter was very suspicious of it (they are both the same to this day). She didn't start eating solid food until she was much nearer 11 to 12 months and then it was small amounts. Her preferred choice was always breast milk which she had until she was 18th months old. So unless your HV or Doctor says there is a problem, go with your baby - he will get there.

Hi, I know first hand how frustrating it can be with a child who won't eat at that age- our son wouldn't have anything textured and would physically make himself sick if he had something he didn't like. On the advice of our doctor, we saw a feeding therapist called Sandra Grosso on Harley st. She was excellent. We took a range of foods to an appointment with her and she watched ow we took the foods, his posture, his behaviour - everything. Her recommendations have turned things totally around for us. We still have problems but now we understand the cause of them (sensitive processing disorder) we are seeing an occupational therapist to work through them and I'm no longer so worried about it.

Whilst you may want to persevere in the meantime, it might be worth considering if it's stressing you and baby out so much that mealtimes get that bad. Good luck!

I know this all too well, my little boy has just turned 1 and he has never been an eater, many mealtimes would end with me in tears. He dropped from 75th to 25th percentile in weight which was terrifying but then steadily tracked at 25th so perhaps this is just where he was supposed to be as neither my husband or I are particularly big.

However, at the time I never allowed myself to accept that he will get there in the end and wanted every mealtime to be the one where he would change. He also knew how to make himself sick and I would often spend an hour at or more per meal trying to feed him while entertaining him with toys, singing etc. etc. to have him just throw up everything I'd managed to get down him.

However, he started nursery 4 weeks ago, and after a couple of bad weeks with illnesses, he has now completely turned a corner. I don't know if this is where he would have naturally changed regardless of nursery or whether he was just playing up to his parents for the last 6 months, but he now hoovers down his breakfast in particular. Lunch can still be a tricky one, but we don't push it now as we know he will eat when he's hungry. He will not take a spoon at lunch or sometimes at dinner so those meals are generally a small amount of finger food, but he does accept his breakfast porridge from a spoon!?

Babies are bizarre, but try not to beat yourself up like I did, it was so hard to cope with and your little one will get there in the end and will not starve him/herself.

I was told "food is fun until you're 1", so let him play, squeeze, throw and spit out food and try not to worry about how much they actually swallow (and keep down!), they will make up for it with milk at this age.

Good luck!

Totally agree with the other people who have posted here, in that you shouldn't rush your child as he will eat when he is ready. What you might like to try however is to start gradually start cutting down the amount of milk which will help his appetite for solids.

Good luck, and he'll (and you!) will be fine.

Oh my gosh, you feed him 5-6 times during the night?! You must be absolutely exhausted!

I had a terrible time weaning my daughter but it was fine with my son, I guess it completely depends on what baby you have but feeding all through the night like that at 10 months old is not normal and I would recommend that you speak to your health visitor or doula or sleep consultant or someone to give you some advice on how to break that habit as you're not getting any sleep, never mind the eating!!

I've been talking to health visitor and she advised me to let him cry bicouse like this he will get to wake up less often but I'd rather prefer to breastfeed him than to stay and see him cry

No, I've never been able to just let my babies cry.

I would recommend the baby whisperer books. SHe isn't as tough as Gina Ford, absolutely does not advocate letting a baby cry itself out but gives really useful insights into the link between sleeping and eating and there's plenty of great advice in there.

The books definitely helped me understand what was going on when I was in a similar situation.

Good luck xx
