I agree about them cramming too many tables in and the mark up on wine is way too high too. It must be a 400% mark up on some bottles.

But it is a local success story and that's something that should be celebrated. I think the food is good and have only ever been treated well by the staff

Interesting... especially as some of the posters above have in the past been very vocal about not "badmouthing" local businesses and now this is exactly what they are doing !

Jen66 - exactly my thoughts. A little too crammed, but I have always had great meals at CB and I also think that its a local success story that should be celebrated!

I don't think anyone is badmouthing anybody - just sharing experiences. That's one of the reasons this site is popular and useful. If you want to book a hotel, you go to Tripadvisor, for schools - Mumsnet, feedback on local businesses - you go here.

And I think the message from these posts is that CB is not "amazing", but many like it anyway, tables are cramped (this I think is consensus) and it's more in the "good" rather than "experience" category. What's wrong with a discussion that leads someone to that conclusion?

I know I would have enjoyed my experience there more if I had different expectations. I expected something amazing that I do expect from any Michelin starred restaurant - it wasn't the case. And the cramped tables was an issue. So I know not to go there if I want to enjoy a romantic dinner and quiet conversation. But if I don't want to track into town and have adjusted my expectations, I can enjoy it much more.

Scores on the doors gives them 5 at the last inspection

I'm sure Wandsworth environmental health would be interested to hear about the mouse

Hi Broodje,
Sorry - my post was not clear. I am not against sharing experiences at all ! In fact, like you, I like reading about people's experiences on this website (good and bad).

I was merely commenting on the fact that some of the posters in this thread have in the past been very vocal and perhaps a little aggressive when people were sharing their negative experiences about local independent businesses (Birdhouse thread springs to mind ?. I just thought it was interesting they were now doing exactly what they were so against - badmouthing an independent local business !

Can I stick my neck out and say that I thought it was better as "Harvey's"?

I think that if a local business is being criticised on NVN that they should be told, so they have the opportunity to respond if they want.

If they're a "local" business they should be aware of local websites like nappyvalley for themselves.

I completely agree with Broodje, that is to say that I would still go there for lunch but as far as price, food offering, ambience and service is concerned at dinner time there are many other options available and their offering is definitely not what I would expect for a Michelin rated establishment.

Not been. Want to go just never got round to it. Like mice, never eaten one though, not sure they should put it on the menu no matter how many michelin stars they have. Also consider myself a foodie - generally to stay alive I tend to eat food. Marcus Waring restaraunt got a hygiene rating of 1 ... akin to some kebab shops and I love kebabs so thinking of going there also.

Hi, I saw it on inside out - the bbc magazine show. I wrote it because I knew it to be true, having also researched it. So legally fair comment.

Another quick goggle search ... by the way I don't read the daily mail ... finds this for your reference so you know that I'm not putting out false stories ... too quick to accuse? And you're right it isn't funny that an expense restaurant can have HAD such poor hygiene, I'm sure they have improved as this is historic ... kebab anyone?

Why are you desperate to fight me and be proved right?

The Berkeley was the restaurant that failed hygiene ratings ... It scored kebab shop 1!!

You keep mentioning Gilbert Scott ...if it scored 4 then woopie doo!

They are 2 separate restaurants as can be shown from their different names and addresses

Am I wrong ? Was Matthew wright wrong?

Jesus, a little light hearted banter and it turns into the usual comedy.
