Hang on, there's a post office counter on Webbs road? I never knew that - where is it please?

What would I like on Northcote Road?

I'd like some sort of corner shop close to the Broomwood end please - this area is a bit of a desert if you need a pint of milk or similar. I suspect it wouldn't make enough money though :(

Also what about a deli? I know there is hamish johnson but that's mainly cheese with just a few other things. The spanish place on Webbs looks good but I think there is room for another with a broader focus. We used to have the Salumeria but nothing has come to replace it. I'd open one myself but would probably eat all the stock :D

Where I used to live there was a deli with a small "general store" section at the back - so a combined deli and corner shop - it was great and always busy.

There is a post office counter (you can send parcels etc, but no services like passports etc) in the newsagents on Webbs rd between Dulka & Chatto. They're also not exactly far from the Broomwood end of BTC for that pint of milk....

Do you mean the post office in the newsagent on Alfriston Road? I was in the one on Webbs road this morning and it doesn't look much like a post office!

Also, there's a Gap in Southside so I think it would be a bit of overkill having one on Northcote Road too.

balham, trinity road, battersea bridge? I think that might be enough... I just really hope the library stays open...

Nope - I definitely mean the newsagents between Dulka & Chatto - look carefully at the counter & you'll see the weighing scales for parcels etc! :D It's not brilliantly advertised but they do it.

I think you'll find that no deli has replaced Salumeria because there are just not enough people who regularly do local food shopping - and by regularly I mean weekly. Independent shops just cannot survive without lots of regular customers - the business rates are high and the rents are astronomical. How many people here can honestly say that they regularly use our local independent shops? And having a coffee in Gail's doesn't count! And Hamish Johnston actually does a lot of deli stuff - cold meats, pasta, chorizo, chocolates, chutneys etc. which of course you'd know if you were a regular customer!

The Spanish deli/coffee bar is great on Webbs. Friendly people and great knowledge.

Go Fish on Battersea Rise has gone. Peeked in there are no fittings. Anyone know what the Vietnamese Pho is like? Can't say I've noticed it before :?

Post Office on Lavender Rise has shut. No information if it's re opening. The London Cycle Workshop there, next door to Birdhouse offers excellent repair service, fair price and friendly too.

Flagging up good service. Went into Question Air for a Wedding Anniversary present and the staff in there were great. Clearly in my tennis gear I wasn't dressed as the 'big shopper' but they were helpful and informative nevertheless.

Yep, definitely a post office counter in the newsagents between Chatto and Dulka rd (next to Sammy Duder's pottery studio). They send parcels etc but don't do services like tax discs or passports... They're really friendly, one time I forgot my purse, and they let me owe it to them (I'm a regular there!).

Hamish Johnston does a lot more than just cheese! :-)

The Baby Room on Northcote Rd (where Quackers used to be) is NOT a nursery-they've set up a nanny agency there...

Thanks for the heads up on the newsagent/post office on Webbs. Good to know as there's often a queue at Alfriston road.

There's a massive Pizza Express on Lavender Hill, right by Asda!

Also Marzano (which was where Byron is now on Northcote Road) was an upmarket Pizza Express but didn't stay the course for some reason.

I'm posting to give a big hurrah to the new bike shop on Northcote Rd (near The Bolingbroke) whose staff are v friendly and helpful.

I'm also posting to say a boo to the Holy Drinker whose staff last night were really rude to me and my chums. OK we're over 35 so not very trendy anymore but we do have money to spend on a few bottles of wine now and again...

Kudos to that new bike shop on Northcote Road as well...I went in there to find out about bike seats for my 7 month old and they were really helpful and came up with just the thing. No hard sell and very reasonably priced too. Will head back there in May with hubby to get it fitted so that he can drop the little one off at Nursery in the mornings before he cycles off to work.

Lovely shop too, excellent customer service - highly recommend.

Ok, came as a surprise to me given the area, but Mayoral has closed. Also Braemer Antiques is closing. This is a shame as it added diversity to the road. New addition Crewroom seems to be busy. Has some nice clothes in it and well priced. The Flight Centre (formally Starbucks) opens this weekend.

The old Dandelion site is looking a bit sad and a shame the entire building is reverting to residential.

Any other rumours, news?
