Getting polo shirts white!

Postby minxymoomoo » Tue Jul 07, 2009 2:24 pm

My children wear white polo shirts for school sports which over the course of the year have turned grey. No amount of washing has helped get them white or removed all the stains.

Has anyone any recommendations on how to get them white again?

Thank you

Hi Minxy
Thanks for the question.

The mother of a friend who is the queen of household tips is down in Clapham at the moment.

We have asked her and will report back soon as we hear.

I feel that after she has imparted her wisdom we will all be better mothers! :D

We popped into Scobies (the dry cleaners and launderers) on Wandsworth Common (who also run an exclusive discount for NappyValleyNet users - look out for the next special offers email) and they made the following suggestions...

a) follow the care instructions
b) if the shirt isn't dirty - wash in conditioner not detergent. Less chemicals and the garment will last longer
c) use good detergent - you can tell the difference and always use powder "for whites" when washing whites
d) follow the care instructions
e) only ever wash whites with whites
f) add in a scoop of Vanish "for whites"
g) every now and again put in a "glo-white", but not every time as its a bit strong.

I hope this works, makes me want to go off and find something white in the house to experiment on! :D

Please do let us know if this helped.

Try Napisan, it's fantastic for whites and colours

Ecover laundry bleach on a hot wash is the best
