We plan to offer nationwide classes, workshops and events to children and young people on a wide variety of subjects under our five educational Hubs: Code, STEM, Innovation & Enterprise, Creativity and Health & Wellbeing.
Role & Responsibilities
We’re looking for a hard-working, organised and self-motivated individual to join Ignite Hubs as our second member of staff. As the Operations & Programme Manager, you will oversee and grow the charity by pushing forward our mission of developing and rolling out educational Hubs and activities across the country.
You will work alongside our existing Operations & Programme Manager to play a key role in the day-to-day running of the charity, liaising with parents, students, funders, volunteers and partners to organise and manage the delivery of our programmes and sessions. You will proactively drive the development of our processes and procedures to enable us to become a great organisation – both as an innovative education provider and to volunteer and work for. You will also research, identify and propose growth, funding and development opportunities.
Working with our talented team, you will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide array of exciting projects and initiatives, such as the curation and launch of the educational Hubs and developing our own educational product range (including a Career Books Series and STEM-in-a-Box kits). You will play a key role in developing our delivery channels, including onsite and remote classes as well as our Online Learning Platform. Additional projects include contributing towards the development of an e-Shop, school holiday camps, animation and our podcast.
You can work autonomously and collaboratively, coming up with ideas and initiatives to help us deliver on our vision and aims for Ignite Hubs. The role reports to the founder and CEO and you will be supported by her and the rest of the team.
This is an exciting time to join us as we enter our next phase, growing our team, expanding our programmes and impacting more children and young people.
Key responsibilities
- Day-to-day operations of the charity and implementing ideas and strategies to grow and develop the organisation.
- Ensure the effective delivery of our programmes and sessions.
- Overseeing, managing and organising our projects and initiatives to help move them forward.
- Assisting with the recruitment and onboarding of volunteers.
- Manage and oversee student and less experienced volunteers.
- Liaise with team members and external stakeholders for all ongoing and upcoming projects.
- Proactively manage relationships with sponsors, universities, schools and other third-party organisations.
- Lead and write grant applications and proposals to new and existing donors and sponsors.
The ideal person will be
- Passionate about education for children and young people.
- Self-motivated and proactive.
- Able to work autonomously and juggle multiple priorities and projects.
- Able to grow and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders.
- Experienced in running and organising projects.
- Strong organisational skills and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Management experience as you will be working with a lot of volunteers (desirable).
- Experience developing/growing community programmes (desirable).
- Experience working with students or running non-formal learning experiences for students (desirable).
Additional details
We are ideally looking for someone who is able to finish either at 7pm or 8pm on at least two evenings between Tuesday and Thursday during term-time. You will have the flexibility to start later or take time out during the day as long as you log back on at 5:45pm. During the school holidays, you can resume a 9am to 5pm day should you wish and attend meetings in the evenings as needed.
Our online sessions take place from 6pm to 7pm or 7pm to 8pm Tuesday to Thursday, term-time only. You are not expected to attend all classes, but you should attend enough in order to oversee and manage them properly. We also offer onsite sessions (when it is safe and appropriate to return) at Peckham Library, SE London, there is no requirement for you to attend if where you live is not practical for you to do so but you would be expected to organise and manage the instructors and volunteers who will be delivering the onsite sessions.

You will have the autonomy to fulfil your contractual hours over the course of the week in a way that meets the requirements of the role. This can be discussed and agreed upon during the interview process.
You will be joining a fast-growing organisation of over 80 volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and skill sets. There are lots of opportunities for you to shape and grow the role, gain skills in other areas and advance your career.
