house renovation

Postby AndrewPreston » Wed Aug 31, 2022 7:31 am

We have a ground floor kitchen extension. It needs a new flat roof/skylight and new glazing doors into the garden. We are interested to use that opportunity to redesign kitchen and the ground floor space as well as the patio garden.

The flat roof needs urgent attention! Any recommendations of architects/builders etc would be gratefully received.

Hi Andrew, I would recommend you speak to Jon Cash, from Hilltop Construction. They are a very professional building company and deliver great results for their clients. John is very friendly and will be able to advise and give a quote.

You can always visit the Bespoke Glazing Design showroom, in Wandsworth Common. We certainly can help with all your glazing needs.

We always recommend to visits by appointment, in this way one of our designers will be available to show you around and talk to you trough your options.

Hiya! We have worked with DG Design House, they provide Design & Build services. Lead designer Dila was very helpful in understanding what our space has to offer and visualised it beautifully with drawings and moodboards. We’re quite happy with the service and outcome we had. They are based in Clapham as well, it was great to work with a local as well.

Hi used home tales for my side return and loft and they were excellent. I used their builder too and also really happy with them.

Hello

We have fully renovated our house - and before we started our project …I spent years studying floor plans, trends/timeless design, estate agent floor plans/photos, seeing what worked for my friends, etc.

Builders have skill sets to build (usually- be sure you also know key regs…as most will short cut a few areas). Most have little knowledge about great design detail. That’s why they need very detailed plans/ specifications.

If you really want the best layout- you need a great architect, interior designer (one with a full design skill set - not just an ability to select paint colours!), and also a very good kitchen designer (who knows your lifestyle and storage needs). A house renovation and new kitchen are expensive- picking the right team will end up saving you money in the long run. There is nothing worse than changing the plans/scope mid way or parting with a builder half way through a project. These are usually the two reasons costs escalate.

I would strongly suggest research before meeting with prospective hires- it’s important to align your aesthetics with who you hire (especially an architect- if you want something more cutting edge vs standard side return). Instagram is great for inspiration and finding trades.
