Is corian heat resistant?

Postby Love lipstick » Fri Jun 23, 2023 12:13 pm

Purchasing a new kitchen and worktop and I was wanting to go for corian as I assumed it was heat resistant. Slightly confusing, I am reading it is heat resistant but at the same time i am reading don't put hot pans directly onto it  :?  Would anyone who has it be able to advise as to whether it is or not it is heat resistant and also if they would recommend it in general. Any other suggestions also welcome!

We used Corian for our remodel - as we have a massive island (3m x 1.5m). Marble was more than double the cost.

While I love the Corian colour we chose…
Hate the product. Hate.hate.hate.
Not nearly as durable as I thought it but would be.
Scratches easily.
Chipped when they installed our flush Gaggenau induction hob. While granted - it was easy to repair the chip…100% will never install again.
It is definitely not heat resistant- we did Corian sides for our sink but stainless steel bottom - as you can’t pour boiling water onto Corian - which begs the question- how would you drain pasta if you had full Corian sink?

Keep looking for something else.
Especially if you want something highly durable.

Interesting to hear that - we have had Corian worksurfaces and full sinks in two kitchens, 10 years in each house and have never had a problem with boiling water on the worksurface or on the sink itself. Personally I love it and whilst I wouldn't chop on it directly or put a hot pan on it, I love the fact it is super hygienic; no seam lines and a quick wipe down with bleach and it is like new again. I believe they use it in hospitals for the same reason.

I would use one of the composite stones. We have one from Caesarstone and it's fab. Looks like white marble but you can spill anything on it and it won't leave a mark. I put hot pans direct from the hob on it without any problems. Cut directly on it. Use bleach. We've had it for ten years and I've thrown the works at it and it looks as good as new. Highly recommended. Don't go for Corian.

Hmmm think that I might want to rethink the Corian, will do some digging into the alternatives suggested. Really appreciate it your feedback, had never ever heard of Caesarstone.

Although Corian has some degree of heat resistance, you will still need to take some precautions. I would suggest that you avoid putting anything on it directly that is very hot.
Possible alternatives if you don't want to take precautions are Quartz composite (Quartz), Granite and Marble

Agree with comments 100%
Corian was half the cost of marble
It does scratch easily
Ours chipped too (and was fixed) during installation of our induction hob
