Eaton House The Manor Nursery

Postby elizad » Fri Sep 16, 2011 7:11 am

Hello

I was just wondering if anybody had any experience or thoughts on this nursery? I am really keen to understand how it compares to other local nurseries such as the Willow and if its lots of fun for the children or more like school? Also do all the children go onto the main Eaton House schools as it seems tricky that you cant look properly and speak to people about the prep/ girls school until you have committed and started at the nursery.

Huge thanks for any background and help.

Hi,
Can't give you a "comparison" as my son was only ever at Eaton House Nursery - but all I can say is that he had a fantastic time (finished there in June), and we were really delighted with it, and our daughter will hopefully be going there herself once she's a bit bigger. He had masses of fun, but also learnt a huge amount, and I get the impression (although I might be wrong) that it's a bit more of a pre-school so I think the day is quite structured and there is a fair amount of focus on letters and numbers. The teaching staff were excellent, he made lots of good friends there. Not all the boys and girls go up to the main schools, but most did.
Hope that helps. We were also a bit "concerned" that we didn't seem to know a huge amount about either the school or the nursery, but have had no regrets at all.

Hi there
Does anyone have an idea how admissions to Eaton House nursery are?
I've been spending so much time and energy worrying about childcare for my 9mo. old when I go back to work, that the whole nursery school registration completely passed me by...
I heard today that friends registered their babies around 2 months old to private nurseries in this area and were still not offered spaces... Now I am completely panicking!
Will they laugh in my face if I register now?
Help! Much appreciated, thanks!

I registered my twins at Eaton Manor nursery when they were 6 weeks old and was told we had the last 2 places. My neighbour registered her son 1 month later and he's on a waiting list. We're not sure if we will send them to the school and was worried that if we sent them to the nursery they would make bonds with friends and then loose them when the went to another school.

Anyway I tried to call up other nurserys for places and was basically just laughed it. Mouse house said we could get afternoons which tend to be un popular as kids sleep then. Eaton nursery have just sent an invoice for £500 for a deposit to hold the place 12 months in advance!

Edam, your child is only 9 months old so you should still have plenty of choice available although you might end up with an afternoon place in some nurseries. We registered with several - some very early (e.g. Mouse House) and some later when my son was about 9/10 months old. It is worth looking at the following (depending on your location): Alphabet Nursery (Northcote Road), Barnaby Bright (Clapham Common Northside), Sparkies (St Luke's Church), Nightingale Montessori (St Luke's Church), Lochinvar Pre-School Playhouse (Balham/Clapham South), 345 Nursery (Wandsworth Common/Trinity Rd), Oaktree (Balham). Many of the nurseries will ask for a deposit 12 months in advance.

Many thanks for the replies. We have posted registration forms and will keep our fingers crossed (for the next 12 months!)... I think that is the best we can do for now :?

No experience of Eaton House, but also to add another nursery school that is definitely worth looking at in the area-Broomwood Montessori which is in the Methodist Church on Kyrle Rd (where they do Tumble Tots, Mange Tout etc). They only do mornings there (9.30-12.45)

It is a really lovely nursery, and waiting lists aren't as long-my daughter started there last September (2011) and I registered her at the end of January 2011 as we decided against Parkgate House where she was due to go...

They are getting more and more popular, so if you're interested I'd ring soon, 0207 228 6048, but if your little one is only 9 months they should have space I would think.

Good luck.
