Amber Teething Necklaces?

Postby txmum » Sun Oct 23, 2011 7:02 pm

Anyone tried them? Do they really help? Would my little boy look silly with one on?

My little boy wears them. They seemed to work for the bottom teeth including molars but nothing helped the top teeth because the top, front four teeth all came through within a two week period. Ouch!!
Lots of people have commented on them including 'he looks like a gap year student' and some people think he's a girl but that's also because we haven't cut his hair yet and he has extra long lashes.

They WORK!!!! I have started using them since my daughter was 8 months because she was a nightmare when her first two teeth came out (waking up at night and constantly crying) and a friend suggested I use amber necklace.

Since then, she has been wearing it nearly every day and when she is teething, she wears it day and night - I only know that she is teething now because of drooling and some nappy rash, but no crying!! I even notice that she is a bit more grump when I forget to put it on for a few days.

Definitely recommend it. And boys look fine with it too!

My LO had such a bad bout of teething at 5 months so I tried the necklace as a last resort, thinking it was a hippie-chick sort of gimmick. Within a day she was off nurofen and teething has barely been a problem since, in fact - her top two canines have come through and I didn't even know when it happened.

I keep it on her day and night, never take it off actually. It isn't a choking hazard (contrary to HV remarks), the beads are individually knotted and whoever has choked on something the size of half a pea?? My friend as a 10 mo boy and he looks like a little surfer in it, very cute and not remotely girly.

Would highly recommend.

I have been wondering about these. Where do you get them from?

Amber teething necklaces are a God-send! They make the biggest difference in my LO's ability to cope with teething. I actually got mine from my dentist. I was lamenting the issue to him while I was getting my teeth cleaned and he actually sold the amber teething necklaces in his office because it's such a common issue. I just wish the dental insurance covered the necklace, too!

No idea if they work but i can highly recommend the hoeopathic medicine Calmonilla - its what the nelsons teething granules are based on but my local pharmacy sells stronger granules and they have worked wonders all week and she has had 2 molars through!

I believe that they work.
Even if they don't, there's no harm in trying it.

I have always used them and have found that none of my charges have suffered with teething problems at all!

Amber Pumpkin do anklets for boys. My 6 month old has one, he has worn it since he was 3 months on the advice of friends who swore by them. No teeth as yet but I'm hoping the anklet will help.

This might be a really thick question, but my friend just bought one for my youngest and neither of us know if they work from them just wearing it, or, as a 'teething' necklace, do they actually chew on it too? My daughter wears it for the moment and I have to say she hasn't had any teething problems, but I'm rather confused as to how they actually work!

yes they do work wonders, my little boy lost it for 2 days and cried without it, put them back on and really helped to ease the big molar coming out.
I have also used camomile granules in combination, very efficient if you ask me.

My little boy has had one since about 8 months and pretty much all of his teeth - 12 and counting, have come through without much fuss.
They work because amber is a natural anti inflammatory which when worn around the neck heats up and releases its properties and therefore works in conjunction with the bodies own anti inflammatory system. I keep it on day and night and like pp have said, each bead is individually knotted they are not a choking risk.

I had a babysitter who took it off one night and the next morning he was grumpy and dribbling. When put back on he was back to his normal self - coincidence, maybe but I'm not going to take it off til he's stopped teething!!

My little one has been wearing his since shortly after my original post. I can confirm that the drooling stopped immediately, and his teeth have come through with minimal fuss. I took it off last week as an experiement to see if anything would change. Not sure if it was a terrible coincidence, but he got the worst nappy rash he's ever had. I felt so guilty, and the necklace is permanently back on!
