Has anyone had twins at St George's and do they have any advice? I've only had one brief appointment there so far and everything seems fine but I have a few unanswered questions. The midwife I met only works part-time, will I only see her or will I see other members of the 'twins team' also? Am I likely to be given a private room when I give birth? Having read a forum on here about private rooms it almost seems the hospital keep them secret!

7years ago I had my twins via emergency casearian,the care was excellent,from doctors,midwifes,they even lookafter my partner..
As I went for induction,i was given my own room,which i never knew..and was there before2days i had twins,after briliant operation..i was taken to the same room...till next day,i was moved then to a wing,with other mummies,by then i was feeling somewhat awake..,didnt walk yet,staff washed me,came regulary over nite to feed babies,they were woken up few times..by other baby,nothing major,I read in past bad reviews too,but exceeded my expectations,very happy...we had a great care,there will be always 1 stersfull nurse,but they are very busy,but proffesional,highly reccomended,in fact they have specialist unit for premature births,and other baby isssues,good luck to you,do not be scared,i went in there smiling and cameout smiling,dont worry so much.

I had my twins at George's last year and they were fantastic. The twins team then was made up of 2 midwives and even though they are part time I saw them (usually both of them) at each appointment... My twins arrived very early and I had a private room both during the labour and after when recovering, they do prioritise multiple mums for the private rooms...
In my opinion georges is the best place for twins as they are one of the only hospitals that have a special multiples program - you really are in the best place.
I would also suggest that you join Wandsworth twins club http://www.wandsworthtwinsclub.org.uk/news.php - they do new mum to be meet ups and will put give you a "buddy" who lives locally and would be a twin mum, great for lots of questions before & after the birth... I have met some many people through them, there do seem to a lot of twins in the area!

I also had twins at St Georges last year. The twins midwife team were excellent. I did see them for every checkup and they were particularly good in the last few weeks (I had the boys at 37 weeks and they were really proactive about daily check ups, calls etc). I had a private room for the three days after the birth and the care was brilliant even during the night when staff were very thin on the ground (I'd had a bad experience with my first child where I'd been left all night with a screaming baby and no help).
Two things from my experience: 1. The classes were a bit limited so I was glad I was a second timer eg they only showed you how to breastfeed one baby at a time and I wanted to give tandem feeding a go and 2. the twins midwife team don't get involved with the delivery so I was in with the general midwives on the delivery unit (my midwife was great but it was a shame not to have the continuity).
Wouldn't have gone anywhere else though.

Having worked as an Obstetric at St. Georges' i would say they are a very good place for you to deliver your babies.The Special Care Baby Unit is the regional centre for prem babies if yours do come early.I think it is important to be well prepared,I run AN classes and often have twin couples attending.I have a large file of completed questionaires that couples have answered (3 months after their babies are born )re feeding/what you really need 2 of/coping with 2 together etc.Do contact me on 020 8946 8561 if you would like more information re Antenatal /post natal or Pelvic core Pilates classes.

Hi,
I had my twins at St Georges and cannot complain about a thing.
I felt very fortunate to be under the care of the midwives there and was so grateful that I got to see the same person every time (when I had my twins there was only one midwife).
I too got my own room after the delivery and every mum of multiples I know has been fortunate enough to have her own room.
You are in very good hands!!!!

I have had two children at St George's - 2009 and again this year. I would never go back again. It is disorganised and the care is terrible. My GP also told me recently that she no longer recommends people go there - recommends Thomas's or Chelsea & Westminster instead. I would suggest you ask your GP - they get general patient feedback as well as knowing specifics of mortality and complications etc. I expect with twins, you will be OK and it will be the "standard" pregnancies that get the poorest treatment. Also, the Special Care Baby Unit is one of the best in the country and so is a big plus.

I had my twins earlier this year at St. George's and agree with those twin mums who found the ante-natal care very good. Those two twin specialist midwives are very helpful and great! My bubs were also in the NICU for a few weeks as they arrived so early and I have to say that the level of care they received and help we received was fantastic! I doubt we could have done better with private care in North America. Also,my GP who has a set of twins herself said that St. George's is the best in the area for twin care.

Regarding the delivery, however, I do have to say that it's a crapshoot as to who you get. Some of us had very good experiences and other twin parents (who I met in the twins hospital class- one of the big benefits - and still keep in touch with) had terrible experiences. THough, I imagine that's likely the case for all hostpitals.
