Need recommendation for nursery for 3 year old

Postby mum-from-tooting » Fri Feb 03, 2012 1:32 pm

Hi,

I wonder if any of you can help. My soon to be three year old daughter is at Grove Hall in Balham and loves it but the problem is that they only cater for children up to 4 years old max and many children leave a bit before that which means that she is amongst one of the oldest child there already and unless they get permission for the extension which is not confirmed yet, I will have to take her out over the next few months and find somewhere else until she starts school in Sept 2013. I know it takes ages to get into good nurseries so would love recommendations to start putting her name down for a nursery that caters until school ages.
Balham/Wandsworth easiest for me to get to.
Thanks for your help.

We love the Montessori on Chestnut Grove (close"ish" to Grove Hall Nursery) and children can stay until Year 1. Lovely atmosphere.

Broomwood Montessori on Kyrle Rd takes children from 2 years until they start Reception-so your daughter would start this Sept. and have 1 yr there... I don't know if they have spaces for this Sept. but it is worth ringing and asking as it is a FAB nursery school...

However, it is a mornings only nursery school, (9.30-12.45) and I'm not sure if you're looking for a nursery school or more a day nursery?

Have you tried Balham Nursery?
Otherwise Caterpillar & Oaktree in Balham
Eveline Day or Bertram house

Thanks for the reply, I will investigate. Can do either mornings, afternoons or all day as still at home with other baby right now.
We are on list for Broomwood reception class so the nursery would be great as it may allow her to meet people who would go to the school (should we be offered a place of course!)
Have a lovely weekend and thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.

Just to clarify-Broomwood Montessori nursery school isn't connected to Broomwood Hall school...

I would say Balham Nursery. My son has just started and loves it. He will go to school in 2013 like your daughter, so it's worth a try inquiring about September in take if you can wait until then. Though if you live in Tooting, they base their intake on distance.

Good Luck

You could try Lochinvar Preschool in the caretaker's house next to Alderbrook school which is attended by quite a few French children as well as English and opens 9.15 to 3 (allows mornings, afternoons or full days or a combination). Alternatively, Balham Nursery or one of the school nurseries from September (but be quick with your application as the deadline for school nurseries and Balham Nursery is very soon)! Otherwise ring round the private nurseries e.g. noah's Ark, Endlesham Road, Alphabet, Nightingale Montessori.

I highly recommend Alderbrook Nursery at Alderbrook school in Oldridge Road, Balham. A super little nursery with a very kind and nurturing staff. They work really hard to make sure the kids are always doing something new and exciting. The nursery provides fantastic provision generally and the environment is a very happy one. The school is an Investor in People organisation and has gained a number of awards, including the National Healthy Schools Award and the Primary Quality Mark for basic skills.

My son is in year 1 now and he has always loved going to Alderbrook school He is doing really well and is very happy and confident child.

Why not give the school a call and ask them for a tour. 020 8673 4913 or check out their website. Good luck.
