Rosetta stone

Postby sutherland » Sun Jun 24, 2012 6:34 pm

Has anyone bought the Rosetta Stone French system? I am thinking of buying it to support the Children's french at Secondary school, but wondering if the £299 it costs is worth it? Also have you had to nag constantly yo get them to use it or was it at all enjoyable? Obviously I am expecting to have to bribe them a bit. ;)

Hi !
Instead of Rosetta Stone, what about a french native speaker who can help them ?

I am french, 23 years old and I give french lessons for 10 pounds an hour.
Let me know if you could be interested !

I've used Rosetta Stone and personally didn't get on with it. But that's a personal comment not necessarily one on their system. I did find Michel Thomas method really user friendly. You can get them on ebay too.

I would second the recommendation of the Michel Thomas method. You learn an awful lot in next to no time and remember it without trying. As also mentioned above, you can get it on eBay for much, much less than £299. It works out cheaper to buy the whole thing with Vocabulary Builder included (instead of intro, then main body, then advanced).

I would also recommend a native French speaker to let the kids practice what they've learned, and to be shown the more acceptable forms of communication and to develop their accent. This will help them effortlessly sail through any oral tests they may meet throughout school. Nothing can beat chatting with a native!

Good luck.
