Aggressive cat found under baby's cot- help

Postby Tillyjimjams » Thu Jul 12, 2012 9:10 am

Hi all

I need to rant but also need advice on what to do. We have a cat quite a boring cat, sedate, sleeps a lot etc who from time to time gets bullied by an agressive cat a few doors down. This cat has in the past entered our house and sprayed against the sofas, curtains etc. very annoying and costly to clean but just annoying really.

Anyway after a sleepless night with my normally quite good 5 month old baby I was in her room giving her some tummy time on the floor and just happened to glance under her cot and this cat was sat there. It had been there all night as I close the cat flap at night to stop this cat coming in. I then discover that it has again sprayed the sofa downstairs. The owners son came to collect the cat but I am so cross and worried about what it might have done to my sleeping baby. It surely is no coincidence that my daughter woke up 3 times in the night. I dread to think what might have happened..

So what do I do, what should I say to the owner of this horrible cat, and how can I stop it happening again. Or am I being unreasonable?

Omg... We have a grey cat always trying to sneak to our house from both garden and main entrance! but that cat definitely is not aggressive...
But there is another cat - dark brown who is indeed aggressive and fighting all cats in my area... Could hear them scream and fight outside couple of times.. Hm... wonder if we are talking about the same cats :)

Get one of those magnetic cat- flaps - there's a little magnet attached to the cat's collar. hey presto!

Even better than a magnetic catflap is one of the ones that recognises your cat's microchip and will only open for them. The slight problem with the magnetic ones is that they'll open for any cat wearing a magnet on their collar - and it's also a hassle if your cat is prone to losing their collar (along with the magnet).

We had a problem with a tomcat coming into our house and spraying our sofa (and on one occasion our baby's pram!!!) and the smell was disgusting and overpowering. Installing a microchip catflap put a stop to it. Although it's worth talking to your neighbour about the problems you're experiencing there may not be much they can do given that most cats just wander wherever they please, but maybe they could contribute to the cost of a magnetic or microchip catflap.

I dont know much about cats but we were recently out for dinner with some friends and they were telling us that they use a super soaker to spray cats that enter their house, with water! They said the cats hate it so much and never come back. I thought it was a bit cruel but they said these other cats are terrorising their little cat, so they are doing it to protect her. Just a though!

I don't think there's a way of keeping other cats from crapping in your garden... That's where all cats do their business - in neighboring gardens and never in their own... Something to do with marking their territory...

As for spraying your couch, I'd give the cleaning bill to the offender's owner, as I, obviously, didn't invite their cat to do it and they ought to do something about their cat's mental state anyway
