Repeated dead phone line

Postby maxey » Mon Sep 16, 2013 6:48 pm

We live just off Nightingale Lane and this is the second time this year that our phone has gone dead for days at a time. The internet is still working. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? :(

Yes, Mr NVN was at Wembley on Saturday night and one of his party lives off Nightingale Lane and has had the same problem.

It's not just you but I'm not sure what else you can do.

Sorry

We have had this a couple of times and it was due to the BT man changing stuff in the green distribution/exchange box

You need to complain to the telephone provider

Yup, had the same thing - once when we needed to call an ambulance too. BT claimed they knew nothing about it. V odd to me.

Happens to us quite a bit, we're quite close to Nightingale pub, tho we don't always notice as tend to use mobiles. Occasionally have gone through the stress of contacting phone provider but now just wait a few days and it usually sorts itself out. Broadband signal has been dropping A LOT lately though, very annoying :( Hoping to move to Virgin cable soon!

Yes ! We live off Nightingale Lane and this is the 4th time this year for us, with it happening again only last week. The phone is always off for a minimum of 3 days but this week it was 5, due to the weekend. I have tried informing BT but it is near on impossible for them to give an answer to why it keeps hapenning or indeed for them to even seem bothered ! Its extremely frustrating and I have asked for compensation as the charges for phone line rental are so high and for the hours [literally] that I have spent trying to get through on my mobile to get it sorted. I didn't realise it was affecting so many other people too!
There is obviously a faulty cable or box problem that they need to address -we just need BT to take it seriously .
I'm hoping the more people who complain will duly make them investigate further. My internet is working but does seem to slow down- but not sure this is related. I would love to change server if it wasn't for having to change everything.
Grrr indeed  !!

I live close to the NIghtingale pub and at least 5 houses in our road were affected last week, either phone & internet or just internet. Our phone/internet line was down for 6 days (including weekend) but thankully up and running.

Such a pain and something needs to be done.

Good Luck

We had this and they kept failing to find out what the problem was but eventually it turned out that the cable was frayed. Took them a year to figure it out

Thanks for info -I have sent an email to BT this morning -as phone calls seem a waste of time, as a different operator each time promises to get back, and ofcourse never does!
They obviously have a problem like the frayed cable and need to get on with it.
Anyone with this problem ,please email complaints @BT-the more chance that BT will take this seriously and fix it properly [hopefully!].

I am near Nightingale lane too and our alarm alerted us to the phone line going down. We are with Plusnet and they were very helpful when I rang on a Friday evening (the 13th). They said it was an earthing issue external to our house. They reported it to Open Reach (assume BT related in some way?) and said it would be fixed by Tuesday evening (17th) at the latest. They also said we would have a refund for the days we didn't have the phone line. The line actually came back on earlier than Tuesday, not sure when. I have seen a couple of Open Reach vans around and men working at the green box in Nightingale Square, I assume it is all related.

We haven't had a problem before that.

Just a note for the previous poster - I think Plusnet IS BT!! (Ie it's owned by them!!)....it's just how they are marketing their 'value' brand. Just wanted to let you know in case you were under the impression you had taken your custom elsewhere!!

Yes Plusnet are owned by BT but act as a separate business. Their services are cheaper and their customers service is WAY better (in my opinion). They responded to my phone call immediately, whereas it looks like other posters on this thread have had issues with BT directly.

We live on Ravenslea Road and have a phone line through Virgin Media, which hasn't been working for a couple of weeks (just haven't had time to report it - using mobile instead!)
